Heading to Disney in May and we are deciding between Mainstay Suites Maingate East and Quality Suites Maingate East. Right now we are leaning towards Quality Suites...but are looking for people who have stayed at Mainstay, Quality...or ideally both. Any insite or thoughts would be greatley appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Haven't stayed at either, but were considering Mainstay because they allow large dogs. However, after driving by Mainstay on our last trip to Disney, we thought they were in a rather seedy part if 192 (we have stayed in other areas of 192 that were just fine).

I will be interested in hearing other responses to your question.

We've stayed at Mainstay for the past 2 years, it used to be Lake Ceceile Suites. I don't think it's in a 'seedy' part of town, it's a few blocks from Mcdonalds, and Old Town. Across the street is the Doubletree. It's close to the Walmart Supercenter and they are 5 or so miles from Disney. Their rooms do not have the brand new feeling, but it is still a nice hotel. We usually stay in a bi level suite, although I do have to say that when checking rates for this year on HotelKingdom.com that the Bi-level suite has went up quite a bit for our travel dates and we may look elsewhere as I'm not going to pay almost 100.00 a night for the room. Again, the people are nice and they do accept dogs, they have a small laundry room(if I recall correctly they had 6 or so washers and about the same amount of dryers near the pool). The breakfast is nice, bagels/waffles/muffins...etc. They are convenient to a lot of the restaurants and stores, and still close enough to the parks. We have not stayed in the executive or family suites, so I can not speak from experience there, but all of the rooms have parking out front and there is nothing over 2 levels (so no walking up a lot of stairs :) They also charge 10.00 extra per night for pets.

We have stayed at quality suites 4 different times in the last 12 years and have always enjoyed it. and now that the girls are teenagers it is great having 2 bathrooms. We also enjoy the free happy hour.

We just stayed in a 1 bedroom at the Quality Suites Maingate East in November. We found it convenient and clean although a little worn. We thought it was a good value for the money. It includes breakfast which was fine(waffles, bagles, cereal, toast, muffins, juices, coffee etc). We used the kitchenette which was great to have at the end of a long day when you didn't want to go out. My kids(11 & 5) enjoyed the pool which was basic. Feel free to ask any more questions.

We stayed at Quality Suites in March 2002 in a 2-bedroom. We thought it was just fine, though I wouldn't stay there again for one reason only. You can rent a condo or pool home for what we paid there or less. You can get a 3-bedroom condo for $69/nite through www.closesttodisney.com and other places. The condos are much newer and much more nicely furnished and equipped.

That said, I though QS was perfectly acceptable though kind of worn. It is within walking distance to Old Town which is a nice perk, especially when the Disney parks close early. Gives you something to do at nite without having to drive all around town.

I've never been to Mainstay so can't comment there. What rate are you getting at QS?

Averages out to $80 a night for the seven nights we are staying, and quality suites.

Thanks everyone for your input and help!

$80 is a decent rate for QS. You could get a condo for slightly less, but QS will include breakfast and puts you right next to Old Town which probably makes it the better deal.
