Hey all,

Can anyone explain the difference between a Main Entrance Pass and a One Day Park Hopper Guest Ticket?

My cousin who works at Disneyland said that she might be able to get me into Disneyland and California Adventure in September 2019. I checked out the Block-out Dates Website and for the dates I am looking at (9/13-9/17), it shows Main Entrance Pass as yellow for Disneyland and green for CA Adventure but for One Day Park Hopper Guest Ticket it shows green for both parks.

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated!

Main Entrance Pass is the hard plastic guest pass each CM gets to admit guests (up to the number of dependents the CM has, or 3 guest for CMs without dependents). The "One-Day Park Hopper Guest Ticket" is a printable paper guest ticket that some CMs -- contractors, recurring employees, other non-full timers -- can print and use in place of the Main Entrance Pass (which they don't have). These are commonly called "Chip & Dale" tickets, because those are the characters who appear on the top. In both cases, the CM has to be present to admit a guest via either of these methods.

If your cousin has a Main Entrance Pass, then she would not have access to the One Day Park Hopper Guest Tickets, however, she would have printable comp tickets (each CM gets four a year, two in January and two in July), which do not have any blockout dates at all. These also have the benefit of not requiring the CM to be present to be used.

Thanks for that clarification!

She said that she can sign guests in up to 18 times per year. What type of pass is that?

I'm not a DL CM so they may be a different type of ticket but it sounds like DL CM comp tickets are different from WDW CM comp tickets because my tickets do not require that I be present.

Is this unique to DL CMs? My comp tickets do have Block-out dates. It's not as many as the Main Entrance Pass Block-out dates but it does happen. In fact, my comp tickets will be blocked out beginning two weeks before GE opens at DHS.

It shows up yellow when more than one park is selected. Select just DL and you'll see that it's blocked out in Sept, but select just DCA and it shows that only certain days are blocked out.

My parents just went from pt to seasonal a few months ago at wdw, and now they only get Chip & Dale Comp tickets (one per every 150hrs worked?) that require they be present at the gate.

(We never worried about expiring comp tickets in the past because we could always get in on their Maingates. They always gave them away to extended family and friends. Now I have two trips lined up back to back to use up the last comp tickets they received as part timers before they expire.)

Are you sure the regular comp tickets have block out dates? Once they are turned into regular hard ticket park hoppers, how could they be blocked out? My parents turned in all their comp tickets for hard tickets at Guest Relations, I have some of them already and they aren't anything unique to CMs, just normal tickets that any guest would receive.

And some Retiree comp tickets also can only be used by the retiree. There's a bunch of different comp tickets with varying restrictions but the standard WDW CM comp ticket does not require that the CM be present. I've given away dozens of comp tickets and never had to be present.

According to the Block-out Date website I use, if I select "One-Day Park Hopper Guest Ticket", part of August and all of Sept are red.

Maybe if you try to use it on a blocked out day, it's rejected.
