Bought something online and mailman dropped it at a neighbors house in error Memorial Day weekend. Only found out cause tracking shows delivered so post office was able to check via GPS when/where it was scanned. Of course it is a neighbor a block or so down that I don't know and I'm assuming they would have dropped it at my door already if they were ever planning to. Post office was supposed to have mailman try to get it back but they never did even after 2nd call...though they did tell me address. Should I go knock on neighbor's door?
Item is now sold out so I can not reorder.

I would - they may not have noticed the inaccurate address or may not have had time to take it by your house. I've been on both sides of this where a neighbor got my package and opened it before realizing it was mine and vice versa.

I would definitely go to your neighbor's house and explain the situation to them. If they deny it or pretend they never got the package, follow up with the post office and don't give up. It was their mistake and it's their responsibility to fix it.

We had a similar experience about a year ago. Post office tracked the delivery by GPS and discovered it has been delivered to a completely different street. They did try to retrieve the package, but of course the people at that address indicated they never received it/didn't have it/whatever. We had to get the Post Master to write an official letter that the post office screwed up the delivery. We eventually got a refund, but weren't able to get the original product ordered. All told, it was probably close to 3 months of hassle. If it's been over a week now, and on your own street just a different block, I would try asking the neighbor about it -- that makes it kind of personal and they may say "oh, I wondered why we received that!" But be prepared that they'll deny receiving it; if they were honest they would have put the package back out immediately. It's pretty hard to not realize an incorrect name on a package, especially something you aren't expecting.

Good luck!

We have twice recently received a neighbor's package. Their number is 112 and ours is 121. Careless. Anyway twice my husband has walked up tgeir and knocked on their door to give the packages to them. we don't know them either.

I wonder if your neighbors could be out of town? Maybe a friend took the package into the house but they haven't been made aware of it yet. I would definitely knock on the door.

Once I received a package from someone on our street one number off (2619 instead of 2519). I walked down to their house and knocked on the door explaining I got their package by mistake. She looks at me with a bit of surprise and says "Oh yeah! I have one for you too." It was a small little package I had bought on eBay from a seller in China -- it should have gotten to me weeks ago and I assumed it got lost in the mail. I'm thinking she had it sitting near her door for a while and just didn't think of it. So maybe your neighbor will be in a similar boat? It doesn't hurt to ask at least.

I hope you end up getting the issue resolved!

My sister had that happen one December. the people who got the package by mistake had just thrown it into a pile of other stuff ordered online that they planned to wrap later! They were able to get it back luckily. I also had a neighbor bring over a mis-delivered package, but it was a week after it was supposed to arrive and I had already raised holy he** with the post office and company by then.

So now I always open anything I receive from ordering online right away, just in case it's wrong or ends up being a mis-delivery.

I would still report it to the seller. They are probably now assuming you received it.

this happened to me a few weeks back, PO insisted it was delivered, checked the gps etc.... except it wasn't delivered,I went and asked around,I know the neighbors, and no one got it. After some fruitless calls to the PO I finally contacted the company, and they reisued the items.

Report to seller. USPS shouldn't have given you the address. They're actually not allowed to, we had this happen over Christmas. Report it to the seller. If you happen to run into the neighbor I'd mention it but don't go ring their bell especially if you don't know them.
