A little while ago I was watching a program about Niagra Falls on the Travel Channel and they showed a segment on the Maid of the Mist boats. I was wondering if any of you have done that "little excursion"? We did it a few years ago and it's one of the most exhilarating things I've ever experienced. I admit I was nervous about doing it but when we got near the bottom of the Falls it was amazing to feel the sheer power of the water and to hear that roar up close. I'm so glad I didn't let my nervous Nellie feeling keep me from doing it!

Hi There,

I was born and raised in Buffalo and have taken the maid trip many times. I guess to those that've not had the experience (over and over...) it must be fantastic. It certainly is something to do once if given the opportunity. But given the choice, I'd rather visit WDW ANYTIME over Buffalo, NY!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

Best,
Brando

Been there, done that. Yes, it is a thrill. Something everyone ought to do at least once.

I will never forget my trip to Niagra Falls. DH and I were taking a long weekend to drive up there. On the way up, driving through a heavily wooded area on a beautiful winding road, I heard someone on the radio say that Princess Diana had just been killed in an auto accident :sad1: . So when I think of Niagra, I think of Princess Diana.

But back to the Maid of the Mist, yes we did do it. It was quite exhilerating!!!!! The raw power of the falls is just amazing.

I've been on the Maid of the Mist maybe 5 or 6 times over the years. Everyone's right --- it's a spectacular experience that everyone should try at least once. ::yes::

I live just north of Buffalo and I'm about 20 minutes from the Falls and believe it ot not I have NEVER been on the boats. I did have the thrill of walking down to the bottom of the Falls when I was a kid and the falls were "turned off". Actually the water had been diverted because they were doing work. I remember looking up at the top of the Falls and hoping no one screwed up and turned the water back on!

We did the Maid of the Mist a couple of years ago for the first time.

It was so extremely windy that day. We were being blown around on the ship so hard that we had to wrap our arms around the pillars and hang on tight :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We had company from the Netherlands with us and we laughed and laughed so hard that day it was just so hilarious. :rotfl:

Great memories.

I don't know how it is to go on the trip during a nice day but our excursion is one that we will never forget :teeth:

Its a blast! The first time we only got a little mist, the second time we got soaked!

Oh, and while I'm not usually the spelling police, it's spelled:

N I A G A R A Falls. ;)

Enjoy!

We went a few years ago and my kids made up this little jingle-type song -

Maid of the Mist Boat Tours - Journey Behind the Falls.......

(you had to be there)

Now I've got that darn thing stuck in my head :rotfl:

It was a great trip though, and everyone loved the boat ride, even the youngest who tends to be afraid of everything.

It was fun, but I didn't think it was as incredible as some of the other posters. We were there in October, and it was chilly, which might have had something to do with it. Be prepared to get very wet.

Never did that either, but I have wanted to. My kids did the cave of Winds with my Mom and sister, they enjoyed that.

I've done it a couple of times. The one that I will forever remember was the one I took this summer. It was a very special trip. I took my mom, age 82 who has cancer, and her 2 cousins (1 from Alabama and 1 from GA) on a "girl's get-away to Niagara Falls. I wheelchaired my mom down the ramp and onto the Maid of the Mist. She, being careful about her hair, was completely covered with her poncho. It was so funny! I really got my work-out wheeling her back up the ramp!

Aww, that is so sweet, so cool! I bet it was a trip to remember. We too love Niagara Falls (and maid of the mist!) -- so much to do for a quick getaway weekend.
