I am making the back of the door in my son's room a magnetic chalkboard. I did the magnetic primer today, 3 coats as recommended on the can. We tested it out before I move on to the chalkboard paint, and found that while most of our regular refrigerator magnets stick just fine, the children's number and letter magnets (which are really quite weak magnets) keep sliding off. If you have ever used magnetic paint, how many coats did you use to make it "magnetic" enough?

I think we did at least 5 or 6 (maybe 7!) and it still won't hold anything heavy. I just added more magnets to the things I really wanted to have on there. That seemed to help. But they still will slide off just by looking at them. ;)

Regardless, we love the way it looks. We did a magnetic chalkboard too and while she's still too young to enjoy it, I love coloring on it myself. :upsidedow

Thanks! Looks like I may need to get another can.

I think we used about twice the recomended amt. on dd's chalkboard wall, and it isn't super strong. I don't think that the letter magnets would stick to ours either. When you put the chalkboard pain on it will be a little weaker still. I'd get another can and go crazy!

Good luck. Let us know if you ever get it to be strong enough. Riley's will hold magnets, but the magnet has to be directly on the wall. If we try to hang papers it slowly slides down the wall. I have considers going back and doing it again, but not till I know somebody else made it work.
