Planning to take this for constipation.

It comes in a 10oz bottle, clear.

I'm wondering if I should drink the entire bottle, or just half of it. Do I drink it all at once, or gradually.

Is it ok to keep in refrigerator and drink it cold?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Are there directions on the bottle? If not, is there a website you can go to?

It always goes down better for me cold. Some people freeze it and make a slushee, apparently, but it's too sour for me to ever do more than hold my nose and get it down.

If you've never had it before, start with half a bottle. Wait about 30 mins to an hour; if nothing happens, drink the rest. A normal drinking pace is fine - you won't want to leisurely sip it, lol. Just get it down. Stay near a toilet for the rest of the night.

Good luck!

It is the NASTIEST tasting stuff known to man (and I include Beverly and Ouzo in that LOL). I had to take it for my colonoscopy prep. I can choke down almost anything just holding my nose but this stuff made me cry. The best you can do is make it super cold and chase each sip with a gulp of water. I was instructed to drink the whole bottle by my doctor...but ask the pharmacist or follow the label to be sure.

I took it for a bowel prep many years ago. For constipation, I can't imagine starting with more than half a bottle.

Start with half, but drink a whole lot of water with it also, which essentially floods the bowel. Give it a while, like a few hours at least, and repeat if it doesn't work the first time.

Some of my patients like it mixed with a ratio of half mag citrate/half sprite. I'd recommend just trying half a bottle.

Have you started with gentler remedies like colace, sennakot, and miralax? Sometimes mag citrate bowel movements canbe, well, intense.

I know others that take magnesium citrate tablets for constipation relief. If I remember correctly they take 200mgs in the morning and 200mgs in the evening.

I had to take that before an abdominal surgery and I practically had to wear a seat belt when I went to the bathroom. It did taper off after a while but I would explore other options if possible.

I always try Milk of Magnesia first as it is much more gentle, and works 95% of the time. Although it also tastes gross. MC will definitely work but you won't be able to leave the house for hours. I sip it cold through a straw, as much at a time as I am able. Are you feeling any better today?

Thank you for all the replies. I haven't taken it yet. Was planning to tomorrow (Sunday) since I will be home all day.

After reading the replies I think I'll try Milk Of Magnesia first. It sounds like it won't be quite as intense.

Oh, I forgot to say, I've been taking a stool softener for the past 4 days.

Definitely take the MM first. A full dose with a big glass of water before bed and you should be better early in the morning. If you're not better by noon or so you can try the MC. If that doesn't work you need to see a gastro. No matter what keep drinking lots of water as these meds can dehydrate you quickly. After you are feeling better you can take a magnesium supplement every day. That helps me more than the colace. Miralax works well too but is very $$ and I didn't really like it. Good luck.
