Magical New Year's Cruise from Galveston 12/29/2012

New to the board -- just found this thread -- lots of great information! Was wondering about number of formal nights and what to pack. Good movies too! This is our second Disney Cruise (first was 4 day on Dream in 2011). We're a family of four - two boys, ages 11 and 6.

Welcome! I can't believe we are only 50 days away! My boys are similar in age to your's, 9 1/2 and 5 (almost 6).

Hi there! Welcome! I believe the only formal night will be on NYE and Pirate night will be the next night on the 1st. We've got 10 traveling in our group, but my two nephews are close to your boys' ages. They're 10 and 5!

I know several people called and found out when the formal evening is, but I just got this in an email from disney about our cruise:

"Your voyage does not include any formal evenings. However, if you'll be dining in one of our adults-only restaurants, we recommend a dress or pantsuit for women and a jacket and tie for men. You may also want to consider a tux, which is available for rental during your cruise."

Just thought I would share. I would hate to purchase dresses and rents tuxes and then find out it wasn't necessary.

I got the same email and was wondering that too!

I got the same email too! I thought it was strange that there was no formal night.

Every post I have read and from what I heard is that formal night is always NYE. I wouldn't count formal night out. This is probably an auto email that goes out for 6 night cruises. Maybe it is typical for that? Not sure.

If I get a chance I will call and double check.

Not sure where I got this from but in my notes I have the following:
Dec. 29 Casual
Dec 30 Casual
Dec 31 Formal NYE party
Jan 1 Pirate Night
Jan 2 Casual
Jan 3 Casual

I must have seen this somewhere! Just can't remember.

Also, have 2 kids a boy 13(will be 14 in Feb) and a girl 9. Would love to hear if there are some kids there age sailing!

Thanks,
Kim

My nieces and nephews are traveling with us and two are around your kiddos ages! My oldest niece is 13 (14 in January), oldest nephew is 10, youngest nephew is 5, and youngest niece is 3. And they are so excited for this cruise! I would love for them to make some new friends to hangout with on the ship!

I cannot believe how close the cruise is getting!

My daughters are 18 and 11. Maybe we could have a meet and greet to introduce the kids to each other? Anyone want to pick a date and time? If not, call my stateroom (7520) once onboard and we'll try to get together. See you soon, and happy cruising!

Thanks for the messages! Hope they make some friends while on the cruise!

I can't believe how quickly the cruise is coming up! I think time is going to fly by with the holidays fast approaching!

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Thanks,
Kim

Hey Everybody,
I got the same email that said "no formal night." I called DCL and they confirmed that, despite the email, there WILL be a formal night on our cruise and it is Dec 31 (New Year's Eve). There's no "semi-formal" night. Just Formal and Pirate as has been posted before.

I hope everyone had a very happy Thanksgiving and a safe Black Friday (if you're a crazy shopper like me!).

35 days!

I am not sure if this has been posted already but I called and asked about the movies while onboard. We will have 3 movie premiers while onboard.

These are subject to change

Toy Story 3 :3dglasses
Tangled
Chimpanzee
The Avengers
People Like Us
Timothy Green
Brave :3dglasses
Wreck It Ralph (premier)
Lincoln (premier)
Monsters Inc 2 (premier)

Just curious, but wouldn't these be the ones for November and not December since the ones listed as premier opened in theaters in November? Will it change for the December cruise? :confused3

I called and they said they have ben printed but not mailed and to check back late next week if I don't have them....whew...:cool1:

My tags came in! Excited! Now need to finish booking excursions and make a mental packing list!

Is everyone ready? We're down to less than 30 days! I've still got to make my FE, but I work better under pressure. I have the gifts ready, and plan to sew a few other things before the cruise. Thinking of packing soon......can't wait to get onboard!

Mentally I am ready!!!!
