Best laid plans and all that! Last night we decided that we simply couldn’t handle another park day, so today we rest and then on Monday (our last day) we’ll do a park instead of hanging out at the pool until checkout. We’ll have to figure out something for Jonathon, though. I’m sure he won’t be contagious at that point because his rash is totally healed over, but he wants nothing to do with the parks. We’re trying so hard not to cringe at the colossal waste of money. The park hopper pass has to stay in his name. If he uses one day of it, he’ll have to use the rest of the days within 14 days. We could probably update it to non-expiring, but even that seems like a waste! I’d rather he just waste the one day and we chalk it up to a loss. Oh well, we have until then to figure it out.

So, we woke up around 9 a.m. and just laid around the room for a while, then headed to the Mara for breakfast a little after 10. We grabbed a couple of trays, and then Dennis had to wait for Rhiannon’s breakfast pizza, which she insisted on having even though I kept telling her it wasn’t what she thought it was. They serve “breakfast” pizza at her school, which is really just a regular pizza with sausage. Heh. Dennis finally got the pizza and took everything else that I’d already paid for to the table while I paid for the pizza and a couple of extra things he wanted. There was a woman ahead of me who was having problems because some of her food wasn’t included on the dining plan, so she was raising a bit of a fuss and complaining to the CM about it. She was getting kind of rude, but finally gave up. When it was my turn, I casually said something to the effect of “Whatever doesn’t ring up on the plan, just put it on my room charge” and the CM just winked at me and included everything on dining! I guess it pays to be nice and not gripe about stuff, although it seems so inconsistent sometimes.

And when I got to the table, wasn’t I right about the breakfast pizza? I had to sit and pick all the ham, onions, & peppers off the pizza before Rhiannon would even touch it.

Something I noticed while we were there were all the people in their bathing suits with their butt cheeks hanging out, and they’d just sit their nasty butts on the chairs with no towels or shorts or anything. Blech! Ptooey! After that, I would just put a towel down everywhere I sat. Nasty butts! Seriously, though, I’d kind of prefer if people would have more than a tiny strip of cloth between them and the place where I’m going to sit next.

While we were at the pool, this little baby squirrel came over to where we were sitting and just sat there begging for food, even climbing up on the table next to us. It was adorable. The birds were pretty brazen too. I know a lot of people are bothered by birds, but I love them so they don’t bug me so much. After that, we decided to get a drink from the bar, but it was only 11:50 a.m. and we didn’t want to seem like lushes. The bartender assured us that it was close enough to noon that nobody would know the difference, so cheers! I had another pina colada and Dennis got a bloody Mary.

The lifeguards did crafts with the kids, so Rhiannon painted a bird house while Dennis went back to the room to check his voice messages and e-mail. I've been pleasantly surprised with him this trip. His job gave him a blackberry in order to check in with work, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to take an entire two-week vacation. I was afraid he'd be glued to that thing non-stop, but while he checks his e-mails a few times a day, he's only made one call.

After that, Rhiannon and I went back to the room and just hung out some more, watching the animals and just being generally lazy, and then headed out to Walmart. The Walmart here (which is in Kissimmee, I believe) has this huge WDW souvenir department with some awesome souvenirs really cheap. I got myself a nice tote bag for $5 and a tee shirt for $11. I had to get some more Motrin and bought myself a diuretic because I’ve been so swollen lately.

Next, off to the Contemporary for our dinner at California Grill. Their menu changes every day because they serve totally fresh food based on healthy California fare in California markets. The restaurant sits on the 15th floor and overlooks almost all of WDW. For appetizers, Dennis got Yoshi’s sushi sampler and I got the “peeky crab” California rolls. For entrees Dennis got some kind of mushroom pasta thing and I got this Copper River King salmon that you can only order something like 4 weeks out of the year because they catch them as they’re spawning. It had a roasted corn soufflé on the side. Dessert was great – Dennis got a molten chocolate lava, I had a mango thing and Rhiannon got rice crispy sushi. It was so cute, it was made with rice crispy treats and gummy fish and some of them were rolled with fruit roll ups. The waiter told us how to make them. California Grill was a great experience! Our waiter, Andy, was pretty nice. The staff told us that we could come back after the meal to watch the fireworks from the overlooks, but it was raining that night, so we decided against it.

Once dinner was over, we went out onto the overlooks to take some pictures. Rhiannon slipped and fell coming back in because the floor was wet. She was okay, but it hurt her pretty bad at the time. Poor thing. Nobody saw it happen, but she was crying and felt so embarrassed to walk back through the restaurant in tears like that.

Then it was back to the room and tomorrow is another Epcot day. Rhiannon and I will go at opening and Dennis is going to MGM for Star Wars fan club day. We’ll meet up at WS for a Biergarten lunch. I sense way more TT in my future! Heee.

Stay tuned for Part 7.
