This may sound silly, but I wanted to ask anyway.

Just made my travel plans and am using Magical Express for the first time. BF uses crutches. Do I need to make special arrangements for him and our trip? I've seen the ME buses before, they look enormous. I was just wondering what the accomodation is for the differently-abled.

Thanks for humoring my question. I just haven't been able to find a straight answer for it.

They do have lifts for people in wheelchairs or with ECV. I don't have a direct answer, but I have heard that if a person cannot manage the stairs but can stand they will allow the person to use the lift.

Thanks so much for an answer. I was worried that we'd get to ME and couldn't get on the bus b/c I didn't do something beforehand...I guess he'll be using the lift. He always like to make a grand entrance...

Kitty, if you look a bit further on this board, there are a couple of more topics about DME. Sue has posted her photos in a couple of them, showing the lift.

However, you do want to inform DME he'll need the lift. They wont assign you a specific bus now (after all; you flight might get in early or be delayed), but this way they can prepare. When you check in at the desk, don't assume anything but tell them he'll be needing the lift. They'll radio that info out and the first bus with a lift on it will be yours. (as I understand it, most of the time they'll have one or more waiting at the other side of the airport. It takes them a couple of minutes to come around, but it isn't bad)

During my sept 2007 trip I noticed a sticker on the lift with pics on it telling people how they should stand on it when using it. I chatted about that a bit with the driver and he confirmed; normall practice to use the lift if a person can walk but can't do the stairs in the front of the bus.

Thank you thank you again! I know the World is so good about making accomodations for differently abled person, I just didn't know what to do/who to inform/where to go. I'll just make sure to let them know at the desk and everthing should be good! Thanks again! :thumbsup2

You can find the photos in post #16 on page 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread.
(I just posted them tonight, so you didn't miss them there before)>

Thanks SueM! I'll go check that out!
