I'm a newbie and am trying to figure out DME. Would it be possible for me and my children to take DME to our resort when we arrive but my dh to rent a car so he can make a grocery stop, bring the food to our resort room, take the rental car back to the airport, then take DME to our resort? Does that make sense? We're trying to go the cheapest route. We'll be eating in the room as much as possible and felt like a grocery stop was a must.

Yes that is possible. It is also possible through Alamo/National to do a rental at MCO and turn the rental in at the Swan/Dolphin or at the Car Care Center on Disney property..

However, most car rentals will be a MINIMUM of $30.00, maybe more.

You can also contact wegoshop.com and they will get your groceries for you and deliver them to you for a fee of about $20.00, so that saves you time and a few bucks.

The cheapest route will be for you all to use the FREE DME and then get a grocery delivery from wegoshop, gardengrocer, or Gooding's. I have no experience with the first two, but Gooding's charges a flat $10 delivery fee with a $50 minimum order. A delivery will also save your husband a lot of time -- getting a rental car then driving to a store in an unfamiliar area then shopping in an unfamiliar store then driving to the resort and unloading then driving the car back to the airport then catching a DME bus back to the resort is A LOT MORE TIME CONSUMING than taking the DME bus with the rest of the family and getting a grocery delivery.

Again, I don't know about wegoshop or gardengrocer, but with Gooding's you don't have to wait around for your delivery or schedule a time for it. They deliver to your resort's Bell Services (BS), and then Bell Services calls you. If you're in your room, BS will bring your groceries soon. If you're not in, they leave you a message and then they store your groceries for you and even keep the cold stuff cold (Gooding's separately bags and labels the cold stuff).

I used wegoshop.com in October and will be using them again next week. I was satisfied with their service. They will deliver alcohol (We are getting beer and wine) and I do not believe Goodings will. If you have alcohol as part of your order, you do need to be there for the delivery. If not, they too will deliver to Bell Services, I believe. You can schedule the delivery time when you place your order. Their current fees are $17 delivery fee and a $2 fuel surcharge, so it is a $19 fee. This is definitely cheaper than a rental car.
Hope this helps.
