Magical Express luggage delivery if renting car....

I was wondering, we usually rent a car, and we don't use the Magical Express luggage tags that come with our bags because since WE weren't riding the bus to the resort, we thought it would mix things up.... but I've been thinking, could we still put the luggage tags on for Magic Express delivery to our hotel room (they take it to the room right?) even if we weren't taking the Magic Express bus to the resort? Or do you have to do both?

If we can have them take just the luggage, we could zip to the rental car company and maybe get to a theme park much earlier....

Magical Express is NOT a luggage delivery service. It is a transfer service between MCO and Disney resorts for resort guests.
Some have done it, and there is a sticky here on the Transportation Forum that details the process and the risks. This is a Transportation question, not a Resort question.
However, they scan your Magic Band twice at the DME bus loading areas, so they know when you are on the bus. If you are not on the bus ....????
I wouldn't risk it

I've never done that but DH and I do sometimes split up. I've taken DME with the kids while he picked up the rental car. We've done it 5 or 6 times and we've always gotten to the resort within 5 minutes of each other. We were able to rent a smaller, cheaper car since we didn't need to fit the luggage in the car.

The bags go totally separately from the people. The bags are taken from the airplane where they've been subjected to security.

They let people take the bus at any point during the day; someone might need the bathroom multiple times (imagine a large group of people with uncoordinated ladders lol), need to eat, twist their ankle, etc, which could cause a delay allowing the bags to be on their way before the person.

Personally this isn't an issue I worry about. And almost the entire thread linked to says the same thing. There is always the possibility things could change. But for now it's not something I would worry about.

That said! By the time we diembark the plane, stop at a restroom to change from WA/plane clothes and freshen up, get on the "tram-o-rail, figure out what way to go, maybe grab an expensive airport Starbucks, and get downstairs, our bags are on the carousel so it's truly no issue to just grab them and go to the car. (Because of our flight times we generally don't get to use the baggage delivery part even when we use dme)

It can change what car I'm getting though.

Sorry- I didn't see the transportation board... I'm sure you understand there's a LOT of info on this site, and even though people try to see if a question is answered before posting it, I'm sure it's common for questions to get re-asked at times....(or asked in the wrong thread, oops. I'll look through more carefully if posting anything in future)

I don't ever "sign up" for magical express, when they send our package prior to vacation, it has the luggage tags already in them. And I've never put them on our bags- just left them at home since we were renting a car. I was simply asking because it may have been nice to drive straight to a them park without having to take bags and check in first, but it sounds like more hassle then it's worth.

msjprincess- exactly this- I was hoping to find a way to basically make something like this work- but with me being the only adult going I'm out of luck I believe! Thanks so much.

I'm pretty sure there's no way to get tags without signing up for Magical Express. We've never received the yellow Magical Express tags or any Magical Express information for trips where we weren't using the service.

Are you talking about yellow DME tags or regular luggage tags that come with a package.

DME tags are mailed separately.

That's strange, because it is something you have to sign up for - it's not automatic. Do you use a travel agent? If that's the case, then maybe s/he signed you up for it without asking you if you wanted it.

Are the tags yellow or are they the color of your magic bands? If yellow then for magical express but usually you have to sign up in order to receive them otherwise they are the complimentary keepsake luggage tags and have nothing to do with magical express.

I don't think you're receiving DME tags. They don't come with your package materials, they are (currently) sent directly by the transportation company, whether you use a TA or not. Until recently they were sent to TAs if you booked through one then your TA had to forward it to you. They are bright yellow stickers.

If you don't want to take the time to drive to the resort and check in, can't you just keep the luggage in the car while you're in the park? Or is it too hot for that?

It depends on when you go - pretty much April through end of October it's pretty hot in the car - I've had antiperspirant get gooey and one of mine eye liners pretty much melted!
