Magical Express baggage pickup?

I am anxious about having Disney deliver our luggage from the airport to our room. We arrive at 4:46 on the 11th and know we will be tired and want to go to bed around ten that night. What is the average time for luggage to arrive? Should we just pick the luggage up ourselves and then get on the magical express or let Disney deliver then for us?

Not sure about the average time. It probably depends upon the level of busy that particular hotel is at that time. However when we went last year to the Contemporary we arrived about 1pm & went to the parks. The bags were in the room waiting for us when we got back around 4-5. Granted we checked in early but I would think your bags would be in your room within a few hours.

Bags are said to be delivered within 3 hours after your CHECK-IN time. If your flight lands around 4:46, let's assume you check-in at your resort at 6:15 (which is reasonable). That means they would have until 9:15 to deliver your bags. Rarely is it later than that, unless you're arriving during Christmas week or something.

In the past, we have gotten our bags ourselves because I can't relax until I know our bags are safe, I can unpack, spray my wrinkle spray on clothes, etc. It took about an extra 30 minutes at the airport to walk down to baggage claim, wait for our bags, and then walk across the airport with our bags over to the DME section.

If you're concerned about getting your bags in time, I would recommend picking them up yourself at baggage claim and put them on the bus yourself. Just don't put the Magical Express luggage tags on your bags if you plan to pick them up yourself.

I have a friend who used Magical Express for the first time. Her flight was delayed, and her arrival time at the resort was delayed by a couple of hours. Her bags didn't reach her room until after midnight! (She had asked that they wait to deliver them until the next morning, but the message got lost and they knocked on the door around 12:30 am!)

So the moral of the story is, always pack your first day's stuff in your carry-on. And if you have a later arrival time, it's always a good idea to grab your bags yourself and load them on the ME bus. Better safe than sorry!

Thank you for the replies. I think we will pick them up ourselves. Looking forward to our first trip next week.

We decided to pick up our bags once since it was a short trip and we wanted to have our bags right away. BIG MISTAKE. The airline sent our bags on an earlier flight and MCO put our bags in a "roped off" area with no employee manning the area. After waiting at the carousel I noticed my bag from across the room sitting in this separate area with about 50 other bags. No employees were around so I grabbed my bag but my mom's was no where to be found. Long story short - her bag was never found and she went the entire trip with the clothes she had on her back. Now we always check our bags and put the ME tags on them and take a carryon with all the essentials.

Just food for thought. I would trust my bag to Disney then the airport any day of the week!
