Magical express and rental car

my reservation for my Family and I starts on Monday October 11th. If I fly into Orlando on the 8th get a rental car to drive out and see my mom can I return the car on the 11th in the morning to MCo then catch the Magical express to the resort or is there some rule against that?

It is for the your arrival date at your hotel (i.e. the begining of your WDW stay) Or any day thereafter (until your departure date). The OP’s arrival date is the 11th (WDW doesn’t care when you arrive in Florida), so there is no problem (and wouldn’t be even if the reservation started on the 8th.

Magical Express is associated with your Disney Hotel reservation. You can take the bus from the Orlando airport the day your hotel reservation starts and return to the airport on your last day at the hotel.

I would take it a step further and drop luggage and people at resort and then return the car and use DME, or even see if you can pick up at MCO and drop closer yo WDW with the rental agency taking you back to resort.

These were 2 options I was considering if I had flown to Florida instead of drove this past June.

Or anytime in between !

My dd often arrives after we do or leaves prior to the end of the reservation and that has never been an issue.

In short - you can't use DME before or after your reservation but anytime during is fine / one r/t per person.
