Magical Beginnings

DebbieB,
You may be correct that I was charged in January for points purchased in November. In January I switched from a lump sum payment on dues to a monthly payment deducted from my checking account, so I didn't notice any increase other than what I had expected. If I had actually been charged for November and December, that would have only been $100, and divided over 12 months would be a very small amount of money, and may have been overlooked by me. Thanks for the reminder;)

I know this is a little off topic but I really don't know why Vero Beach doesn't sell better. We would buy, even without the MB.

Why is it a failure for Disney? Do you know why it had to be downsized in the beginning?

As far as beachfront resorts in Florida go, I really think VB is among the best for what they offer, the styling of the resort(it's not an off white, plain looking high-rise), activities, food, etc.

Do people just not like it because it's not at WDW?

What is the one property you speak of that Disney had to divest themselves of? Was it offsite?

We found VB and went there for 3 yrs before even thinking about going to WDW-it had just enough "Disney" for our young children without taking them to the MK before they were ready.

I would love to see Disney build a coastal resort in the Clearwater Beach area but I guess that is never going to happen.

Do you really think that Disney would sell VB?

DVC owned the property that is now Newport coast with an announced DVC site for there. They had a contract for a property and hotel in CO around that same time and it fell through. There was active investigation of a NY property but then all was dead in the water. From a sales standpoint, VB and HH are poor performers. HH has the island, VB really must stand on it's own. It's a great resort but the combination of isolation, high cost and low marketing and salesmanship has left if floundering from a sales perspective. HH suffers from the same issue to a lessor extent. I'm not sure about the downsizing but suspect it started pretty quickly.

No, I don't think Disney will ever sell VB. If things go bad, if liberals get the government back, Disney management make a major change, etc, etc, the one resort, the one that has caused the biggest black eye, VB, is most at risk. I don't think it will ever happen, but it is definitely the most likely resort to be sold.

I believe there were actually two properties, one was in Ca, the other....Tx???? One was definitely announced, the other rumored. One now has a Marriot, I am not sure about the other.

I am sure Dean or Doc will clear this up shortly.

Kansas, call Disney and talk to a guide! You can also request written information. That is the only way to get current, accurate information.

Then I would suggest, for comparison's sake, you could talk to one of the reputable resale agents mentioned on this board (Shontell at Timeshares by Resale is great), and get their best estimate of the total time and cost to buy the same size package resale. People can talk all day long about contracts being negotiable, etc. but a good agent will be able to tell you the "going rate" and give you a reasonable idea of what to expect if you take that route.

I think it is a bit dangerous to try to make your decision based on conflicting info and opinons on this board. Go make those calls!

Disney's DVC resort advantage is the on-site locations. I have not seen many negitive posts from people who have stayed at the resort. I dont think they will ever sell, they promote it in every piece of literature for vacation package as a " Beach add on ".
It is a nice addition to DVC and anyone else who wants to vacation there.

When Disney puchased the property, they didn't opt for just the ocean side. Keep in mind WDW owns 48 square miles and it's not anywhere near developed. If they never add additional Vero beach units and sell the undevloped land at a nice profit, that would be good.

Kansas- Another point is that resales don't typically take a credit card- Dean may know some that do but the Timeshare store and atimeshare don't take them. So if you want those credits, you need to buy from Disney
