This was a toss-up between Castaway Cay, of course, and Cozumel. So here's the Castway Cay review:
Castaway Cay was outstanding because it could be as active or relaxing as you want it to be. I ventured forth at 9:30am sans family, and scored a couple nice chairs under an umbrella and some trees back away from the shoreline at the family beach and near the buffett area which worked out great for us. The walkie-talkies were a bust, so I headed back and cut my family off at the pass to make sure they had water shoes as some areas were very hot (the sand was soft in that area though) We all did the banana boat around 11am, then DH and DD11 went back to the beach, and DD13 and I rented a two person kayak. The area is big enough to get a good feel of it, as this was our first time. If you paddle over by the ship and head back you can even catch some small swells and "surf." Although the rentals are for an hour ($10.00), we stopped after 1/2 an hour. I can tell you my arms were hurting on Saturday-boy am I out of shape.
When we got back DH had a bucket of beers (same bartender he made friends with in Promenade Lounge) and other DD at the shipwreck thing where they can swing off ropes etc. I bet there were a lot of tired kids after playing on that all day.
The barbeque was a thumbs up for us. There are lots of lines, but they moved pretty quick. Wear foot protection or you will burn your feet.
By 2pm DH decided to head back to the ship, which being so close by is another plus. He's not a beach person, so he did well to be there for so long with his SPF 50 and UV protection long sleeved shirt (yes, the skin type only those of Irish descent can appreciate.) DDs and I headed out to the snorkle area and grabbed vests (we have our own equipment) and headed out. Did see the underwater Mickey somewhere out around the buoy A-way out. Took a long time to get back, and we were pooped.
Spent time on the beach right up until the announcements that it's time to return rental stuff, pile up the towels and go back to the ship. Those started at 3:30pm, and by 4:00pm most everyone was gone. Got back on board and even showered before heading to the deembarkation program, which I am too nervous to miss. We were in plenty of time for the early dinner.
Next time I am going to rent a sailboat.
