Has anyone regretted going to MK on the first day at the parks? I've read somewhere that if kids go to MK on day 1 they don't like the other parks in comparison...

I was thinking about going to magic kingdom on 1st day partially because it's my daughters birthday but I don't want her to be disappointed with the other parks.

All kinds of opinions on that.
A LOT of discussion on "which park first" over the years.

Only you can judge for your daughter, as you know her best.

While the 'Guidebooks' offer the suggestion that MK can be better as a finale, I tend agree with Robo on this - depends on many factors.

if you have a trip of less than 4 days, MK should be a priority - because, for instance, weather happens.

Why 4 days? I assume you want to go to each Park at least once.

Age also matters in this equation for you. So too would roller coaster/ thrill ride experiences of your child. Maybe animals are a priority over princesses.

A buddy of mine likes to offer the following, "Saving MK for the end is more of a guideline than a rule."

We definitely went to MK first. Took the boat from the Poly and it was magical. The whole day was great and never regretted it. Our boys, 3 and 5 at the time also enjoyed the other parks but I will never forget their faces on the first day

It's always our first stop! Kind of our kickoff to the whole trip, if you will.

It's also where we spend the most time. We do every park at least one day, but MK 2-3 days. I'd hate to save it until the end and have something happen--weather, illness, tired & cranky kids--that gets in the way of enjoying that park. At least if you have it planned early in the trip, if something happens later, you haven't missed it completely. I could live with missing one of the other parks--couldn't live with missing MK!

I never really thought about it that way. I suppose I can see where that's a concern, but for us MK is pretty much the one and only place to start a visit. Our kids wouldn't have it any other way. But I wouldn't say anyone is "wrong" for starting at another park. There's no wrong way to start a WDW trip!!

Every trip that is longer than a day or weekend trip, we do MK first and last as our kick off and finale.

I solved this by making our first AND last full days MK. And then I went and added a half day at Epcot for arrival day.

I am in the save MK for later camp. Really I try to plan based on crowd predictions and generally try to avoid MK on weekends. On my upcoming trip we have party tickets for our third full day so that will be our first day in MK.

Will you be going back to the MK again later on your trip?

I have to say it would be hard to pass up a birthday in the MK. We were there once on my daughter's birthday and is a great memory.

If you're only doing MK 1 day and especially if this is the first trip, no I wouldn't do it the first day. We go every year so we appreciate all of the parks, having said that, MK is all the kids favorite and we go multiple times each trip.

I like to start and end at MK. Just a personal preference. This trip in 2 weeks is the first time not doing that because I get in on an evening with MNSSHP, so I'll be hitting up Epcot for the night.

I would do MK first if I were you, that first park leaves such a lasting impression! We did Animal Kingdom first on our first trip and it definitely holds a special place in my kids hearts now! Depending on her age I would also recommend hoppers so if one park isn't to your liking you can always head over to MK again:)

When we first started going and my son was almost 3, MK and Epcot were the only two parks and MK resorts the only resorts on site (Shades of Green was a Disney resort back then not military) so MK was our first park just because we were there. Through the years and as they started opening the Epcot resorts and more parks, we moved over to the Epcot resorts and tended to just start where ever the mood struck us, more often than not Epcot because we were right there. It didn't matter a bit to my son which park was first and he loved all of them.

I think it is a preference. My DH insists we have to start in the MK on every trip lately, but does not seem to notice we never have done so in the past, and the kids never are sad. My girls all prefer Epcot to the MK, so you just never know.

For my family, park day planning revolves almost completely on avoiding morning EMH. If we're only going to MK once (rarely happens), I plan it for later in the trip because I'd rather have the build up to my favorite park and end the trip on a high note. But I can recall my first trip to wdw as a kid. I couldn't wait for that quintessential view of the castle I'd seen a million times in commercials. For that reason I was disappointed that our first day was spent at Epcot. I was a scholarly, bookish child who loved the idea of travelling the world. Given my personality, I would have still loved Epcot even if we had gone to MK first.

Funny enough though, my favorite park as a kid was the studios. It was such a cool experience once upon a time. Somewhere over the years it lost it's focus. Now, with the park almost gutted, I am more than happy to skip it. Which leads me to the suggestion of spending a half day at the studios (if you plan on going) and heading back over to the MK so you get two days of MK.

MK on the first and last days and we add 1-2 mornings or afternoons in the middle too. We get park hoppers and sometimes just like to end our night in MK.

My kids have never been disappointed by the other parks. But we can't be in WDW and not go to the MK.

I would definitely do MK on her birthday.
MK is our first and last stop while at WDW each and every trip.

AK is our family's favorite park however. MK is just magical. The ambience of it all is why we start there and end there.

The Tree of Life @ AK makes me cry (happy tears but still tears) so I always need a happy castle memory while we are leaving.
