Magic Key but no DVC AP

We know you can renew WDW APs, and it sounds like they are going to announce DL Magic Key as a replacement for DL APs. Disney Paris APs are back. However, as a DVC owner, I check every day to see if I can purchase a WDW AP, and I hear no news whatsoever. I’m scheduled to be at WDW at least 15 days before June 2022, and I can’t get any information regarding what will be available to me.

Yes, it’s true I don’t have to go to the parks everyday, but since it’s a timeshare, I have to use my points. You’d think the DVC group wouldn’t lag behind just about every other announcement. Frustrating.

I know it is frustrating having services be in limbo. Not knowing if something that was suspended until further notice will ever come back and having to plan around that. I have 3 trips this year, myself.

But you should look at it this way, you are getting exactly what was promised to you, a room at one of their DVC villas. Discounted or even guaranteed entrance to the park is not what was purchased.

I know its been said, the the WDW AP program encompasses a lot more than DVC and is run by another division. We are just a small subset of park goers who want them. Nothing is going to be announced until it applies to everyone.

The good news is, IMO, is that now that the DL program is being announced, hopefully, we will hear about the WDW sales returning or starting up soon.

I am not interested in Magic Key, but am very interested in the DVC annual passes. I hope a decision and announcement is coming soon. There are many DVC Members who want an AP option. Without one, there isn't a compelling reason to own a lot of points. Yes, resort-only stays are nice, but the vast majority of us bought to visit the parks.

I fully expect to hear something regarding the return of annual passes soon, unless the COVID situation in Florida prevents WDW from returning to pre-COVID capacities. Pretty sure that possibility is what is holding up any announcement right now.

Soon!

"And for those wondering about Walt Disney World Annual Passes, new pass sales will become available in time for the start of the 50th anniversary celebration! Walt Disney World Resort will be sharing additional information and details later this month, so be sure to stay tuned to DisneyWorld.com and the Disney Parks Blog."

Perfect that means in less than 2 months they go on sale.

Have to lock in my extra trip next summer now.

I am hoping that when the DLT goes on sale, they might at least allow DVC owners access to one or both of the CA resident “Magic Key” passes.

The only true CA resident pass is the So Cal option (Imagine Key), and the blockout calendar on that one is trash. The only other thing exclusive for CA residents is the monthly payment plan.🤷🏼‍♀️ It appears anyone can purchase any of the other three. I just hope there will still be a discount (albeit likely tiny) for DVC owners.

So we just called today to take advantage of the 'loophole' allowing existing DVC AP holders to renew if you had a pass during the pandemic. We're now awaiting a call-back, with the intention of getting gold passes for our Jan. 2022 trip and other trips in 2022. Now I'm wondering if it'd be better to wait until closer to our Jan. 2022 trip in hopes a discount is announced for DVC members. Thoughts?

I would say that there is just about a zero chance that whatever they come up with for us now will be better than the Gold Pass. I would buy the Gold Pass now because you won't be eligible for it once they start selling the new passes.

Why not eligible? Are you assuming that the gold pass will not be available to DVC members?

They are saying the Gold Pass will be end of lifed and only the new pass types will be sold.

Example the new "DVC" Pass could be one with a much larger blackout calendar where it doesn't work for your trips. It could also be one with worse discounts in stores.

Flip side if you buy the Gold Pass and its "better" I would suspect Disney will let you trade it in to "upgrade" to the new pass.

If your AP expired more than 30 days ago and you are deemed eligible to buy a "recovery" AP, you will be buying an AP voucher that doesn't start its year until you activate it and enter a park with it, and you will have until 12/31/2099 to activate it. You will be able to buy a DVC Gold AP at the price of a new one, not the renewal price, though. Personally, I doubt that prices for APs will decrease between now and January - I think prices are more likely to increase when they announce the "additional information and details later this month."

I am already now up to 3 trips next year instead of the 1 trip with this announcement of APs coming back. I have never been to WDW more than a single time in a year previously.

The DVC pricing is still in effect. I would buy now when you can. We have no idea of the new price structure that will be announced.

I'm confused. Where does it saw the Gold Pass will be phased out, and there will be a DVC pass? Is it on the DVC site somewhere?

Curious too as I have seen nothing to that effect.

The person was saying that buy it now and don't wait since Gold Pass might be gone. Disney has said nothing but if you wait and they do change it then it will likely be for the worse.

Again it was just their thoughts nothing factual from Disney at this point.
