Magic Bands

Please forgive my ignorance but I have even off the boards for a long time due to my DH illness. Things a better and we hope to go to BCV in May. Can someone explain the process of the Magic Bands to me and how I get them for my May trip. I would normally be up on all this but unfortunately "life" got in the way and put my daily DIS surfing on hold for awhile! Thanks for any information.

Basically, MagicBands replace your Key to the World Card. Just as your room keys accessed your onsite profile, so do the MagicBands. They also access your linked ticket media and FastPass + info (which, technically, is an upgrade to your profile). There is no info, other than the RF ID account number stored on the band itself.

About 60 days or so prior to your trip, you will be given the option to "customize" your MagicBands on the My Disney Experience website. Basically you pick a color. That band info will be linked to your profile, and assuming your are a US resident, your MagicBand will be shipped overnight after your last "customize by" date shown on the website. If you are using Magical Express, wear your MagicBand on your flight to Disney or have it handy for when you get off the plane, it will serve as your bus ticket at the airport.

They will scan it at the Magical Express boarding area.

I will confess, I did not go looking for this question in prior posts. I'm renting DVC points to stay at BWV next November. I currently have several non-expiry and UT tickets I'm still using up. Will I be eligible for the Magic Bands if I'm renting points? Should I be putting all my unsued days from old tickets onto the Magic Band(or MDE I guess), if I get a Magic Band?

I'm sure I'll have more questions on these Magic Bands as this is new since my last trip to WDW and I'm one of those who needs to know every detail of how something works before I get there!

As long as you create a My Disney Experience Account, and link you BWV reservation using your confirmation number, you will be eligible for Magic Bands and FP+. You will need to link you ticket media to your account to have the Fp+ access. I've read people have found it tricky to link UT tickets, but I believe it is possible.
