I recently had a question about purchasing Magic Bands off ebay. The main thing about that was don't buy used magic bands (unless you're collecting them like Trading Pins).
My question had to do with purchasing an unopened magic band from ebay (or another third party). We have a trip coming up and over the course of a week the magic band my daughter wanted (Marie) wasn't in the Disney Store (discontinued).
I found an unopened one on Ebay, decided it was worth the money to get what my daughter what she wanted. If it didn't work I would buy something else.
Great news, if you buy an unopened Magic Band from a third party it will work. All you have to do is follow the directions on mydisneyexperience to link your Magic Band to your Disney trip. Just tried it out today.
I would advise you to do research and make sure it's completely unopened/unused.
