I recall reading somewhere that Magic Bands are used in the kids section of the ship? Can these bands also be used in the parks? Or would we need to get new ones the parks?

The bands in the clubs are for the club only and stay on the ship when you leave it, unless you want to pay for a plastic souvenir that has no use off the ship.

The band we got on the Fantasy in Dec. will work in the park. Though we haven't been to the park to try it out. The ships recently transferred to the new Magic Bands the park uses. So in theory you can order the ones on line (with characters pics, etc) and use them on the ships in the clubs. Again you have to pay to keep them and then register the bands to you for your trip. I haven't gone thru that so maybe someone else can say.

I do know this because when I was at the park in Sept I asked if the bands would work on the ships and they said soon and when we got on the ship they gave us one for our son and I asked and they said yes it would work in the park, that's why we kept ours.

Now the question is will everyone soon on board get these bands as a replacements to the Key to the World cards? If so how do we keep the lights on in the cabin with out the KTTWC? (LOL)

I doubt it. Magic bands are not for customer convenience. The magic bands are for data mining (collecting where you go and how you spend) and for encouraging spending (it's easier to spend with a band since you don't see cash leave your hands). Since Disney already has those objectives taken care of on the ship with the KTTW and cashless system, there is no economic incentive to install a magic band system. And that's what drives their decisions.

I really don't think that's true. They LOOK like the bands, but I don't think they ARE the bands.

Except for being able to use it to access the 'hidden' cruise stuff in Disney Infinity :)
I was wondering about the Disney Infinity thing. We still have the bands from our last cruise. I was wondering if we could bring those for them to use and still get the Disney Infinity benefits when we leave. Has anyone tried that?

Last month my son lost his magic band in MK after our cruise. We went to Guest Services to see if it had been turned in and it had not. The agent noticed he still had on his band from the cruise - still hasn't taken it off - and he reprogrammed it to serve as his magic band. Had his room key, fast passes, etc.
