Can anyone help me clear up confusion with what's going on with the new Magic Band system? My parents and I are planning a trip to Disney World in early June of this year. We will be staying off site. Will we be able to purchase Magic Bands or are they for guests staying on site only? If so, will this policy change in the future?

We will be staying off site.

1- Will we be able to purchase Magic Bands or

2- are they for guests staying on site only? If so,

3- will this policy change in the future?

1- Nobody knows.

2- Right now, the MB's are for WDW resort guests only.

3- Nobody knows.

Currently now off-site guest are offered a card version which in my opinion is better as long as you have pockets. I say this because when I look back at our pictures the MBs stand out. I know we could have taken them off but if I'm going to take it off and put it in my pocket then a card is less bulky.

Here's a question with a twist! What happens if we have currently reservations on property BUT after we get our bands we change to off property? We already have Season tickets & they are "attached" to the bands.

There is no reservation info, or ticket info, or credit card info,
or FP+ info "put onto" a MagicBand.

The MagicBands just contain a unique serial number that is used
to access the information that is stored in your MyDisneyExperience computer file.

So, even if you were to lose a MagicBand, the info stays locked in your file.
Disney can just set up a new band (different serial number)
to access the info in your MDE file.
Disney can also issue ADDITIONAL MB's to a guest and each
additional band can be used for the same purposes as the first band.
So, yes, there can be multiple MB's per person, and each fo them can be used by that person.

The MagicBand works like the combination to a locked safe, or a key to a locked door.

Why does this distinction matter?
Because there is so much fear about losing bands and,
in turn, losing all of a guest's information thought to be on the band.

The MB, itself, is not the file of info or the container of the info.
The MB just unlocks the file of info, allowing it to be accessed when needed.

But Robo, if currently we have reservations to stay on site & we change to an off site hotel, will we still be able to use our MB?

If you have tickets linked to MDX and you already have the band, then yes, you will be able to use park admittance and you will be able to use them to reserve and redeem FP+. Since you have seasonals I believe you will still be able to make the FP+ reservations.

And Robo explained that they are not attached to the bands. All the band does is read your MDX profile. As long as the tickets are linked to your profile and valid the band can read them.

Y'all please forgive, it's a Monday! So the bands don't have to be "activated" once you get to the hotel. If you receive the bands then you are good because your ticket info is "associated" with the band, they won't block the access because you cancel your reservation. Do I have that right?

Yes, except for guests who had packages including tickets. You cancel the package, you cancel the tickets. But if you have an annual, no problem.
