All in all we had a good cruise BUT do be careful. I know the hand wiping and food serving are aggravating but don't take it lightly. My child got sick and a lot of other kids got the "cruise flu" as well. Of all the parents I talked to it seemed to be hitting the little little ones (under 2). They know its happening - the Doctor knew it - the room attendant knew it was happening. We were quarantined in our room for two-three days and we weren't the only family. I don't want to scare you but I wish I knew this before I went - I would have been even MORE careful. So.... If you have little ones Be Careful.

Other than that, the cruise was great. Costa Maya wasn't that bad of a port, I thought it was better than cozumel's port. We have a two year old and an 11 month old and we were able to get off the ship there and walk around a bit without being on a busy street like in cozumel. (too little for most excursions).

The new vista rooms in the spa are great. I did an alone time and I thought I was in heaven. They didn't even have to give me a massage, I was just happy being alone.

Any questions please ask.

When we got back to the All Star Sport Resort our oldest son started vomiting, (ETC.) for about 6 hours. (This was about 15 hours after we got off the Magic.) We attributed it to some alfredo sauce he ate that evening, since none of the rest of us got sick. This morning my younger son threw up. Hmmm.... Do you think that this is cruise ship sickness? My kids weren't around any of the other kids on the ship and we were pretty careful with constant hand washing, etc. I'm wondering if I should report the sickness to Disney?
Sorry to hear that you were sick on the ship. :guilty:

Oh No! I don't want to hear this! We leave this Sat!

I'm so sorry that you had to experience illness during and after your cruise!

I hope everyone is well soon!

Thanks for sharing your information with us!

I will try to get my kids to wash their hands at every opportunity!

SUrrounded by boys: I would report it, because they try to track it. I'm sure that it would be helpful to them. Or, see a medic at your hotel and tell them what is happening.

Do they have the poops yet?

UMTerp: Didn't mean to freak ya out! I just wanted people to know - IT REALLY DOES HAPPEN AND ON DISNEY. Its not about just going through the motions, take it seriously. Relax, just be careful.

Oh oh oh I forgot about this: I made a formal complaint with guest services. They do ALL THIS STUFF right? BUt they pass out used crayons at all the meals - think of that.

Pixie 3,

We were on the same cruise as you.

On Monday afternoon/evening I was so queasy. I figured I was seasick since I can't even ride in a car for too long. Then I woke up on Tuesday still not feeling well.

On Thursday my DD10 threw up a few times. I figured that because it was a sea day she must be seasick. I didn't think that it was anything else because she is sensitive like me. I kept her in the room all day and night and ordered room service for myself.

No problem! Glad to know before we go! I never thought of the crayons before! Maybe we should bring our own for DD.

Thanks!

I called and talked to a Disney rep. They were a bit concerned but didn't seem to think it was caused by cruise ship sickness. I tend to agree with them. My oldest son was sick for about 6 hours total- vomiting, (and like I said, ETC!); but was fine after that. It was more consistent with food poisoning. My younger son threw up today (which is almost 4 days after the cruise) twice. Now he's fine. I filed a complaint with the All Star Sport Resort food service while there too.
I guess regardless of whether it was caused by the cruise ship or not, when you have that many people on a ship using recycling air, etc, there's going to be a higher chance of illnesses of all kinds. We all used the wipes every opportunity and washed our hands about 10 times a day. Hopefully future cruisers won't have any troubles! Best wishes :thumbsup2

The virus goes around the schools every year. Wherever there are a lot of people there is sickness. I always carry hand sanitizer wherever I go.

we were on the Magic 7 day over halloween 2005...son got it@ BUT sad to say we didnt make a stink about it becuase we were hearing of people being sent to rooms for days! quarentined..it was Literally 12 Hrsand he was fine again...he DEF had a little bug!

I should have posted right after we returned but forgot. We had no illness in our family. Some strategies that I used that may help others.
1) brought our own crayons/pens and didn't use the ones provided on the ship in the dining room after the first night (when they were new).

2) grabbed an extra wipe for each person to use after serving themselves in the buffet lines.

3) used a wipe to touch the buttons for getting ice, soda, ice cream, etc.

I know these may be extreme, but we didn't get sick!

We started the day we left the Magic in Jan. 06. My 2 1/2 year old threw up the whole trip home, then my older son came down with it, then myself, then my mother. It was from the cruise, but it won't stop me from going again!! The only person not ill was my DH, go figure!!!!!!! :confused3

We just got off the April 22 Western. I was amazed at the sanitation precautions but unfortunately have to report that my 13 year old DS son became violently ill 24 hours after leaving the ship. Classic Norovirus symptoms: severe vomitting, diarrhea and fever and then gone in 24 hours. We had to cancel our flight home and reschedule a day later :sad2:

Knock on wood, DS 10 and I have been spared.

Hi all,

I worked for Carnival for many years and cruised with them a lot. I have to hand it to Disney; they really try to get the “cruise sickness” under control with the hand sanitation stations. As a Kindergarten teacher I know first hand how quickly viruses spread in a contained area. I recommend that you use the hand sanitation station before you eat and also keep in mind that you are constantly coming in contact with door handles, elevator buttons, railings, etc. You should wash your hands often.
:sunny:

I also avoided using the rail when going up and down the stairs. Just used the stairs a little more cautiously!
