Wednesday we pulled into Cozumel about 9:30 am and we able to go ashore about 10:30. We gathered ourselves together and headed out to get a cab for Mr. Sanchos. You have to walk through the entire market place to get to the cabs and they line up in a circular driveway at the very front. Everyone waits in the line and you just tell the guy how many and he gets you into the cab. The prices are fixed. It cost $30 each way for 7 of us to get to Mr. Sanchos. We spent over $100 on food and drinks there. It is not inexpensive unless you pack your own food. Entrance is free but now they charge for floating mats. We were there last year and they were free. Their water trampoline was broken this time around. Last year the kids spent hours up there. You can get banana boat rides right on site and parasailing too. We considered it but opted not to do either. Lots of people were doing both though. They serve a great drink in a whole pineapple. It is very cool and delicious. Also expensive. They use a less generous exchange rate than in the market place. At Mr. Sanchos it is 9 to 1 the market is 11 to 1 most places. We enjoyed the place, the water and weather were very nice. We had asked the cab driver if we should go to Mr. Sanchos again or try paradise beach and he said Mr. Sanchos because it was bigger. Maybe next time we'll try Paradise.
the shops are fun in the market place. If you are planning to buy jewelry be sure to bargain and bargain. All the jewelry places are owned by the same people so you won't find a big difference. They will bring the price down significantly and even more so if you have "cash money". A bracelet that started out at $210 quickly came down to $80 with "cash money". Be ready to bargain! We bought lots of souveneirs there and had fun shopping.
The pirate dinner was very cool it would have been great had our server not been incredibly horrible. At this point we could barely stand him. My 4 year old wanted to take a picture of him with her disposable camera(I gave one to each of the kids at the beginning of the trip) and he pretended to pose and just as she took the picture he turned away and laughed. I was shocked to see such poor behavior. That was it for me. You can treat me badly but not my child.
The party started shortly after dinner ended. Kind of a bummer for those with late seating. I toured the party but was very tired (the theme for this trip)My husband and daughter decided to stay while me and my son retired to our room. When we heard the fireworks start we went out to the balcony to watch them and had a perfect view. They were magnificent! I was very happy to watch them from the verandah. All was good with the world! The next day was my birthday!! A morning brunch to look forward to!
