Maelstrom

I was just wondering about height requirement. I was led to believe that their was one from the sites I have researched, but a friend just came back from WDW and brought me back maps of all of the parks. The maps list height requirements for Test Track and all of the other rides that I know have height requirements, but does not list one for Maelstrom

There is no height requirement for Maelstrom.

We've been to Epcot a few times and have never been on Maelstrom. What type of ride is it? I get that it's on a large boat but is it a smooth ride. Exactly what happens when you're onboard?

Here's a description from the Disney site:

Tricky trolls are out to befuddle you as you explore the heritage of Norway in this adventure-packed boat ride. Watch for polar bears and pirates and hold on tight as you plummet backwards into the stormy North Sea! The spirit of adventure is always alive on Maelstrom.

It is a dark ride and you will see some trolls (which can be scary for kids, especially since the 3 headed troll says to send you back, over the falls). At that point, your boat goes backwards down a hill (can you have hill in water??) and goes rather quickly by scenes of Norway's past. It's a smooth ride though.
