i was planning on taking our 6 1/2 mo. & 2 yr. 10 mo. old DDs on this ride since there wasn't any height restriction. however, i read on allearsnet.com that the child must be a minimum of age 3. is that correct?

I took my 2 year old cousin on it about 3 years ago. Nothing was said to us. I don't know why there would be an age restriction on it. That rides not that bad.

My DD has been on this 3 times - starting when she was 5 mo old and no one ever said she could not ride. I also do not remember any sign saying anything about an age restriction. I also checked Birnbaum's Book and there is no mention about any restrictions for this ride.

Like the others have said, I took DS on it when he was under 2 with no problem.

allearsnet.com does indeed say minimum age 3 to ride Maelstrom.
www.disneyworld.com says that guests with young children may swap out to ride but does not mention any age or height restrictions. Their film shows people hollering on the ride but it really isn't that scary.

...uh...what's the Maelstrom?

Maelstrom is a must see in my opinion. It is located at Epcot (World Showcase) in Norway. This is the description given by DIS:

In Maelstrom, visitors board a 16 passenger Viking-style boat and travel along a 10th century Viking village and through a mythical forest where you'll encounter mischievous trolls who cast a curse on the boats to go backwards downriver. Your vessel passes a grand fjord and continues on through a storm by a North Sea oil rig. Maelstrom uses Audio-animatronics and special effects to tell of Norway's history and ancient folklore during the 10 minute ride. Following the ride, visitors are invited to watch a short, recently updated film on modern Norway.

i don't know where allearsnet.com got that info. but it's clearly stated on that website re: the age restriction for Maelstrom. it's good to hear from people who have been on the ride w/ babies under 3. i wouldn't want to be in line for nothing or have to do baby swap - the toddler would be disappointed!

You should have no problem. We took our daughter and it was just fine. It's a pretty tame ride too.

The only age limit I've heard of at WDW is for children to ride unattended without an adult... which is seven. Everything else is driven by height.
