Mad-neighbor girl took all our G.S. cookie customers

We're not in scouts but when the kids do have to sell anything (Thank God, their school doesn't do fund raisers, yet) we don't let them go door to door. We have them ask a couple of close friends and relatives.

:rotfl2: So very true!

For some girls, Girl Scouts IS "real life". In my experience, just about everyone will buy a box even if they don't care for the cookies. You could always donate the box to show support. :thumbsup2

Sorry.. I don't think that came out the way I meant it.. I know that GS can be a very important part of a childs life - what I meant was "who wins a prize" is not that big of a deal in real life..

Did that come out any better? :confused3 A GS that adheres to the rules and doesn't lie and scheme to win a prize is to be admired.. The other child that made the promise and then broke it doesn't seem to be very "admirable".. KWIM?

Does it really matter who gets more sales than the other since in the end the whole group is benefitting from the sale? No the kid shouldn't have lied but again isn't it the team (in this case the troop) that matters? Or are Girl Scouts "All about Me" now too?:confused3

Last week after school, the neighbor girl and my dd agreed that they would divide up the street for cookie sales. This weekend we went out and found out that she went to every house on the street. This girl is 2 years older. I know she did it to get more prizes, but I think she is very dishonest. I told my dd to approach her about it after school, but I'm sure the girl will lie. She has been caught doing other dishonest things. When I see the mom I am going to say something to her.

A wonderful lesson for your daughter to learn at a young age. It's just business.

Another GS leader saying let it go. Surely not the GS way to make an agreement and break it, but neither is bickering at someone after the fact. Best thing to do is take the high road.

I am SO glad our council does not do prizes. It takes some of the viciousness out, though some troops really push the sell sell sell mantra. The girls in my troop sell what they can but don't knock themselves out. We stick to lower cost activities and fill in with extra fundraisers as needed. Not going out for blood over cookies!

From what my sister has told me, and this may just be her troup, the money earned belongs to the individual GS and goes in to an "account" to pay for things like their badges.

I know troops do it, but it is not allowed under the "rules". I never did that with my troops.

I have a hard time with that. But maybe that's just me. The school my kids used to go to had fund raisers and all money earned went into the PTA to benefit all students. While we don't do fund raisers at our current school as far as kids going out and selling stuff, we do box tops at our current school and any money raised goes to the whole school.

I've heard of older troops doing this - especially if big troops are being planned. The Council has to be A-OK with this.

At the lower levels (i.e. daisy, brownies and Juniors - this would not be acceptable.)
