Im ticked... Im having serious issues with my fibroids. Lets just say Ive had a time of the month, for the month. Yes...daily, for weeks.

Come to find out - through my doctor mind you - that being on BC (Nuvaring) with the hormone estrogen, can make Fibroids grow, hence why Im having so much trouble now. But he's the one who spottted the Fibroids in the first place - why did he suggest this stupid thing in the first place?!?!?

So, from looking online, I see this IUD - Mirvena? Anyone with Fibroids have any words of wisdom for the bloody-mess of a woman (NO PUN INTENDED, really... :lmao: )

Im just annoyed - pirate:

I can't really help you with the fibroids (so far I don't have any), but my cousin had terribly heavy bleeding due to fibroids. She got the Mirena IUD, has had it for 3 years, and raves about it any chance she can get. It has pretty much stopped all bleeding. Once in awhile she actually gets a period, but she said it is more like spotting.

No words of wisdom for you - hopefully someone has some for you. Hang in there!

Cathryn my friend has had Mirvena for about 6 months and is pretty happy with it. Her cycles have decreased but she does have some headaches that come at "that time of the month" but she said its a decent trade off.

I hope you feel better. I have fibroids and they aren't fun, that's for sure.

Okay, maybe I'm off base here. I'm talking about the "Mirena" IUD, but you both are using the word "Mirvena". Is there something new out there now?

No, youre right - during my angry type I added the extra V... :confused3

Think of it for very, very VERY mad! :teeth:

And I'm lazy so I copy and pasted, lol. Still the same thing :thumbsup2

Cathryn not to get too gross, but I had bleeding like you and the doctor ended up having to "force" a cycle with meds because I was having spontaneous bleeding and not an actually cycle.

If I wasn't trying to get pregnant at the time I would have told them to take my uterus and be done with it...its so annoying at times.

Ive considered it - Im sick and tired of feeling so worn out, spending an arm and a leg on tampons, ruining pair after pair of undies and pajamas... And Im done having kids, so what's the point of having the dang thing, anyways? :confused3

Then I get all "but it's my female organ" sentimental. I dont know... Ive got a DR's appt Feb 2nd and we're going to have a little talk about all of this. It's become a HUGE part of my life, I have to think about it daily - literally, and enough is enough.

Thanks for the support - it IS frustrating!!

What a huge pain in the butt. I do not have any advice for you, but trust me I have experienced this first hand on having it for a month at a time, what a waste of money!!!

Been there, done that. Two words to discuss with your Dr.: Endometrial ablation.
A whole new world. Still have visits from Aunt Flo, but, ah...very little maintenance required.
Good luck! :sunny:

That's why I had my hysterectomy in June...and frankly, I haven't missed it one bit! If you're done having kids, frankly, I'd suggest seriously considering it. Check out http://www.hystersisters.org for more info and support.

I am going through the same thing. In fact I just got back from my doctors appointment. They are going to put me on Lupron Depro for two months to shrink my fibroids and uterus. It will be easier when I have my surgery in a couple of months. I have four fibroids and boy do they cause alot of trouble. Really, really heavy periods. I tried the IUD but it slipped. OMG it hurt more coming back out then it did going in. Never do that again. I have been on the pill off and on. But then I have a really light period for about 6 weeks. Doesn't make DH very happy. So hopefully this surgery will help. The recovery period is only a couple of days. Since I do child care in my home I don't want to miss too much time. But I guess if this doesn't work than a hysterecomy is in my future.

Good luck

Jean

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! That is THE worse stuff to go on! It's awful beyond words! I was on it for 3 years!! I gained almost 150 lbs in weight. I felt like I had the flu all the time. I just can't tell you how awful it is. I now have weak joints that are quick to jump out of place. They are still coming up with the side effects.

I know exactly what you are going through!! I had the samething, but for over a year! Yup that's right over a year! To the point I had to have blood tranfusions. Doctor after doctor couldn't find out what was wrong with me. So they put me on the Depo shot. :furious: Which wasn't much better!

Finally after 5 years of bleeding, shots and a year off of the shots. I went to yet another doctor who finally put a name to it all. I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. PLEASE ask your doctor if this is possible for you.

I am now on the Nuvaring also and I'm NOT happy about it either. I don't know if they are pushing it on the doctors like they did the Lupron and Depo 5 years ago. I have been told by my doctor it could take the Nuvaring several weeks to absorb into the body. :furious:

I've had fibroids since 2003. Dr. put me on Depo for a bit said it would control the bleeding. It didn't and I started loosing my hair. :furious: Finally, she decided to put me back on the birth control pill I was taking years prior. Ortho Novum 777...it has been a life saver!!! :woohoo: My periods are light, last for 3 days exactly and I can tell you the exact date and sometimes time it will arrive! :p I don't know if this will help you, but ask your Dr about birth control pills. You've already said you're done having children, so the pill would be to strictly help you with your fibroids.

Keep us posted.

Denise :wave2:

After my last D&C due to VERY heavy bleeding from fibroids the Dr put me on the pill to regulate my periods and lessen the bleeding...well I HATED taking the pill but it worked...then I stopped taking them since I really hate taking any kind of medicine every day and now, 4 months after I stopped I am sure they are back because I have irregular periods and heavy bleeding with clotting (isn't that a pleasant picture!)...the next step is an ablasion then its hysterectomy after that one!
