Have always used Windows based PC's at home and they work fine for general internet use, online shopping, etc. At work we used to have both Windows & Apple based products, some worked better at certain things than others. New computer users found it confusing to switch between them and their files would disappear or they had trouble with the differences of the look/feel which seemed like Apple purposely did that to distinguish themselves from competing products. Different doesn't necessarily make something better.
I think it mostly depends on what exactly you plan to do on your PC. Something like high end gaming (for example) which is very graphics intensive, probably has hardware/software optimized for that purpose. General internet day-to-day use, not so much. If you do a lot of heavy duty coding, likely you have also found products you prefer and seem best suited to that application.
