WELCOME TO STEPHANIE'S FIRST EVER TRIP REPORT!

Ok y'all, I have an AWESOME trip report that has been marinating for MONTHS inside my busy little brain and I am JUST NOW getting a chance to spill ALL THE JUICY DETAILS for your enjoyment!

*squee* :lovestruc

I have SO much to share with y'all, I'm not even sure where to begin!!!
There was drama, there were some tears of happiness shed, romantic surprises, and many magical memories that were made. OOOOOH. I want to cry just thinking of all the fun we had!

EEEEP! Do I start by telling you about the cast of characters? Yes, yes I think that is a very good place to start, indeed.

Without further ado, I bring you the six happiest twenty-somethings to ever step foot inside the most Magical Place on Earth:

  • First up - Stephanie & Jason

84275cb6-1.jpg

Kissy kissy!
See, there? That's me on the right. Yup, my hair is blonde on top and red underneath. Anyways, I'm Steph!
I'm in my late twenties and have no children, but I still love Disney and everything Disney related. I fell in love with the World on my first visit in 1993 and have come bank as often as my bank account will allow. At work, I'm casually known as "the Disney Chick" because my cozy little office is peppered with Disneyana, including a 3 foot tall Minnie Mouse who watches over me while I work from her perch atop my bookcase. And anyone planning on visiting the Mouse knows to come to me for all the info they'll ever need (and more) :upsidedow

That handsome guy I'm smoochin' on is my wonderful boyfriend, Jason.

You guys, Jason is THE MOST ROMANTIC MAN ON THIS PLANET.
I kid you not. I am utterly, totally, and completely head over heels for him.
He is amazing and treats me like a princess every day.

Jason and I share a mutual love of Disney. We met on a dating website back in 2010 and I initially thought his profile was a joke. His default picture was he and Mr. Incredible arm wrestling! Additional pictures showed him striking a pose with Goofy and various other Disney characters, and the meat of his profile was ALL Disney. A few days before we started chatting online, I had updated my profile to include my fascination with Walt Disney World so when I received a message from a handsome Disneyphile a few days later, I was more than certain something fishy was going on. Either one of my friends had conjured up a fake guy and was playing a horrible prank on me, or perhaps a scorned admirer felt a need to lash out at me and had created a fake profile for some weird, cuckoo reason. I was totally convinced a guy such as this existed only in my dreams. But luckily, I was wrong! He was real, and was the Prince Charming I have been searching for my entire life! He surprised me with something ultra romantic this trip, but I'll get to that later!

Now, this trip wasn't meant to include Jason at all. Nope. No boys allowed at first. Nah, I know what you're thinkin'. I wasn't trying to be mean at all, this trip was just planned pre-relationship. It was going to be a Ladies Trip. Four girls were going to take on the World. We were gonna be Princesses and we were going to Disney it up for a week.

Those ladies happened to be
  • My roommate Cassandra
  • My braintwin, Kelly
  • and our awesome friend Mandy
02a88e8e.jpg

(Psssst, that's Cassandra on the left, Mandy in the center, and Kelly on the right. Oh, and I'm pretty sure you all are familiar with the tiny blonde there in the middle!)

Once Jason and I became a couple, these girls awesomely and graciously allowed Jason and his friend, Jordan, to share all the magic and happiness with us for a week in late September! Awesome friends, huh?

339906_664005063394_202302638_33747206_658892110_o.jpg

The whole gang!

Just so we could feel like we still had some "girl time" on the trip, we planned for the four ladies to stay at Port Orleans French Quarter and the boys would stay at POP Century. Our trip would start early, early, early on September 21st and we'd return to "the real world" on September 27th as late as we possibly could.

Lucky us, we were able to score a free dining plan since we booked straight through Disney. The boys booked through Priceline, so no free dining for them! Ouch. Poor boys. But they did get to come with us and chow down on some awesome food at some of our dining destinations.

Okay. Let's move on to the first day of our trip, shall we?

Subscribing. Looks like a fun bunch! I'm not too far away in Oklahoma - we love to go shopping in Grapevine.

On the eve of September 20th, I raced home from work at 5:00pm and picked up my four-legged furbabies from home and took them the 15 minutes south to my mom's house after stopping off at Petsmart for some "Mom's going out of town so here are some sympathy toys/treats because she feels bad for leaving you" items. After a tearful goodbye, I raced home so I could finish throwing last minute items into my giant pink suitcase.

Our flight out of DFW on the 21st was scheduled to depart at 7:00am, which meant in order to get enough sleep to be happy AND functional (and pleasant to be around) the entire next day, my bottom needed to be in bed no later than 8:00pm. So after packing, showering, and putting on my jammies, I had a little discussion with my good friend, 3mg melatonin, and was off to dreamland in no time at all.

The moment my alarm went off at 2am the next morning, I bounded out of bed and raced down the hallway towards the darkened bedroom of my roommate without a second to lose. "Cassandra!! "CASSANDRAAAAA! Its here! Its finally here! Today is the day!! CASSANDRAAAAAA! WAKE UP!!" , I managed to shout between each jump. Luckily, she was just as excited as I was to be waking up during the wee hours of the morning just to get ready to sit on an airplane and I was able to avoid any bodily harm presented to me at the hands of a cranky riser.

After applying our makeup, perfectly coiffing our hairdos, and tossing our luggage at the front door, we paced the small foyer while staring down the front door in an attempt to will our friends to come walking through any moment. It worked, and Kelly and Mandy arrived almost simultaneously, both looking rather bright eyed and bushy tailed for 3:45 in the morning.

After all hugs and happy dances/"OMG WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY" freakouts were finished, we decided we still had plenty of time to kill before the limo arrived (limo? Did I say limo? I meant the HUMMER LIMO Jason had arranged to pick us up and take us the whole 2 miles to the airport) so we figured it was as good a time as any for an early morning photoshoot.

What we learned from this particular experience is that when four women want to take a picture together and no one else is around to hold the camera, the pictures end up looking less like a fun group picture and more like a lobotomy gone wrong caught on film.

DSCF1092.jpg

DSCF1094.jpg

DSCF1093.jpg

Mandy and I were able to keep both side of our faces. Lucky us

By the time we finished taking pictures, it was just about time for the limo to arrive. I had yet to hear from my boyfriend, so I decided to give him a call. When he answered, he sounded flustered and semi-panicky. He told me he'd call me right back.

His return call came around 4:25am and he informed me that the limo driver had full on FORGOTTEN we were flying out to Orlando today. Forgotten. HE FORGOT US. The man who was supposed to take our happy butts to the airport in his shiny, hummer limo with all the unnecessary disco lighting and loud (Disney) music inside had slept in this very morning because he was under the impression we were flying out on the 22nd. OH. MY. GAWD. We now had no way to get to the airport!! What would we do?!?

Cue complete meltdown of four extremely amped up women.

While the four of us ladies were freaking out and nearly in tears, Jason was figuring out a way to get us all to the airport on time and in a way that wouldn't cost as an arm and a leg.

Surprisingly, Jason and Jordan showed up at the front door about 20 minutes after his last phone call to me, with Jason's sleepy parents in tow. TA-DAAA! Jason's parents to the rescue!! Dressed in their pajamas (bless their sweet hearts for getting up so early!), they helped load our luggage into their two separate vehicles.

Cassandra, Kelly, and I jumped in the car with Jason's mom since we were flying out on AirTran (connecting flight in ATL). Mandy had used frequent flyer miles when she booked her flight and was able to score the same direct AA flight as the boys, so she hopped into the car with Jason, Jordan, and Jason's dad and we all headed off to the airport.

Jason's mom dropped us off where we were meant to go, and we proceeded to check in. What a breeze! Check-in took no more than 2 minutes per person, which was a total relief after the drama we had already encountered that morning. After being violated by that new-fangled xray machine security has set up (thank goodness I had on clean underwear), we headed towards our correct gate.

Jason called to let me know they had all gotten through security with no issue and were getting ready to board their flights. He said he'd see us in Orlando around noon.

It was now GIRL TIME! Schweet! The three of us decided to grab something to snack on, so we ran up and down terminal E looking for any shop that would be open that early in the morning. As luck would have it, the only shop open was Starbucks and the line was 12 people long. We had plenty of time so we stood in line anyways.

I pulled the cash from my pocket that was originally intended as a tip for Forgetful Limo Driver Man, and decided I would put it to better use and purchased a fruit cup and a bottle of water at Starbucks (with plenty of cash still left over). Your loss, Forgetful Limo Driver Man!

We returned to our gate with our goodies and proceeded to update Facebook via our cell phones until a crew member called for us to board our flight.

See? Here we are at the terminal. Took this picture specifically for the ol' Facebook crowd. And I have no idea what any of us is looking at

Subscribing. Looks like a fun bunch! I'm not too far away in Oklahoma - we love to go shopping in Grapevine.

Thank you so much for following along!

You're the 2nd Oklahoman Disneyphile I've "met" who comes down to Grapevine to go shopping! I didn't realize we had that much to offer around here. Maybe I'm shopping in the wrong spots ;)

After an unremarkable flight from DFW to ATL and ATL to MCO, the three of us were absolutely thrilled to be walking (at a high rate of speed) through the terminals of the Orlando airport.

Mandy, Jason, and Jordan had already arrived and were already checking out their resorts by this point, so we moseyed on down to the ME pick-up area.

The little guy at the podium who took our Magical Express "tickets" commented about how we must be college girls out to destroy the World and meet some cute Disney boys. We giggled, confirming nothing, and headed towards our bus.

Instead of the super cute Disneyfied buses that we were expecting, we were picked up by a tacky yellow MEARS bus instead. We boarded and waited a good 15 minutes before every one was on board and ready to leave the airport. During this time, a small child was having a full on temper tantrum -- kicking, SCREAMING, throwing things. We decided to take some pictures to pass the time and keep us from pulling our own hair out.

DSCF1103.jpg

Screaming child kept up her act for the entirety of our ride from MCO to their destination at Old Key West Resort. I think the entire bus clapped as soon as the doors were shut on that family. :rolleyes1

After two more stops, we finally arrived at Port Orleans French Quarter! And boy were we stoked!

We jumped off the bus and were immediately greeted by a pleasant little man holding mardi gras beads. He asked what color each of us would like (I went with purple) and after giving us our beads, he told us "welcome home!" :lovestruc

Mandy met us in the amazing lobby and we proceeded to check in. I was so impressed by beautiful resort so far. The fountain was so serene and the jazz music emanating from the lounge really made you feel like you were walking around the real French Quarter!

Our room was ready so we headed on over to building 7. After a lot of searching, we finally located our room. We were on the top floor and had a corner room, which meant double windows that looked out over the picturesque.... PARKING LOT. We would have preferred a view of the river, but whatcha gonna do? I was there to have fun, not stare out my hotel window all day.

our lovely home for the next 6 days

After checking out our surroundings, we called up the boys (who were already at MK! humph!) and boarded the first park bus towards the Magic Kingdom

Did I mention that Kelly and I were traveling with two WDW NEWBIES?!? This was Cassandra and Mandy's first trip EVER.

Oohh, I can't wait to read more of your trip. You had me with your friends. You all remind me of me and my besties when we were that age. I would love if we would be able to take a girls trip to see Mickey Mouse!

The boys were waiting for us to arrive, even though they had already taken a few joy rides on some of their favorite attractions. So much for waiting for us to share the fun, the joiks! :rotfl:

This is what I walked up to when we got through the main gates:
5fdbe035.jpg

Jason is ready to make some memories!

After playfully scolding the boys for running off without us, we did the most important thing we could think of: We took the newbies to meet Mickey!

Already hot and sweaty from the 96% humidity, standing in line in the air conditioned Exhibition Hall was a blessing! It only took about 15 minutes of waiting before it was our turn to meet the Mouse himself, and Minnie too!

By the way, everything you've heard about Mickey liking to see himself on merchandise is true! He made a huge deal about his picture being on Kelly's shirt:

Despite how it looks, I assure you that Mickey is only checking out his own image on Kelly's shirt.

Hanging out with the Mouse himself really set the tone for the day, so we all skipped down main street towards Adventureland. We took a 'short cut' over by the Crystal Palace and noticed a lonely little Photopass cast member who looked like she was just itchin' to take some group photos. We quickly put her to work

Worn out from all the extreme photoshooting, we decided that a simple cruise around the jungle would be the best way to rest. A 10 minute wait is all it took before we were off on our merry way. The WDW veterans in our group made sure to explain to the newbies that our lovely skipper would keep us safe from anything we might encounter in that scary ol' jungle.

Jungle Cruisin'

Good grief! September 21st turned out to be such a LONG day!

To recap:
  • We woke up at 2 am
  • At the airport by 4:45am
  • Flight left DFW around 7:00am
  • Landed in ATL around 9:30am
  • Arrived at MCO around 10:30
  • Checked in to POFQ around noon
  • Entered MK around 1:30pm

By about 6pm, we were all dragging our butts through the park. And we still had SO much more to do. Including a 9:45 dinner reservation at 'Ohana! How the heck were we going to pull off a full day in the park PLUS dinner reservations? Three words: Ride. Splash. Mountain

Yup. That's all it took.

And WHY did this ride convince us to head back to our resorts for the evening? Because that darn, dreaded "fake splash" soaked me to the bone. Yup. Jason and I got the worst of it as we were in the front row of the log when the fake splash came hurdling at us as another log went down the final drop.
I looked like a drowned rat! Seriously, I was not a pretty sight AT ALL. While everyone else in our group found my misfortune to be quite amusing, I got the last laugh as rain came pouring down while we were taking the huge plunge into the briar patch.
By the end of the ride, EVERYONE in our group was soaking wet. BAHAHA. Serves you right! :lmao:

We decided that this might be a good time to head back to our resorts and clean up before dinner, and maybe even sneak in a little napski while we were there.

So out of MK we went and the boys hopped a ride on the first bus to POP while we waited for the POFQ bus.

Finally at our resort, we took our time as we trekked to our room at our beautiful resort. We checked out the pool and some of the grounds on the way. Upon entering our room, we were thrilled to find that we had been visited by TWO guests while at the park.

Our luggage had magically appeared inside of our room and we all rushed to open our bags so we could change out of our wet clothes. As I was rummaging through my giant pink suitcase, one of the girls said "Um, Steph, I think someone left something for you up there on the dresser..."

I turned around and to my ultimate surprise, found this:

He knows how much I love the Haunted Mansion :)

With the help of my sneaky-deaky friend, Kelly, Jason had arranged for the Disney Florists to put together a Halloweeny type floral arrangement and deliver it while we were at the park. Boy can they keep a secret! I had NO idea this was going to happen. I had seen Jason and Kelly whispering to each other about something, and when I asked what was going on, they led me to believe they were discussing something else entirely and I was none the wiser. Ain't he sweet??

*swoon*

Annnnyways, after "ooooh"ing and "awww"ing over my surprise, we all started to get cleaned up. Showers were taken, makeup was reapplied, and hair was redone. We finally looked presentable again! Huzzah!

We headed over to the Poly with plenty of time to spare prior to our reservation. We checked in and then hit the bar/lounge area where we ordered some awesome (and expensive) drinks inside of pineapples!

The best $13 drink I've ever had

We sat around for awhile sippin' on our tropical drinks and talking until it was our turn to go gorge on a delicious Polynesian feast

This was our first trip to 'Ohana, and let me tell you, I WILL BE BACK. Everything was SO good!

I'm pretty sure I ate my weight in the bread alone. Mmmmmm, sweet, wonderful CARBS! :cloud9:

After dinner, for reasons unknown to me, we decided that walking around and checking out the Polynesian would be a grand idea. Here is my reaction to that suggestion:
a4b3724a.jpg

I'm tired, I feel fat, my feet hurt, and we have a BIG day tomorrow people! Lets go "home!"

PS. I wasn't nearly as cranky as that picture suggests. I even obliged to ruining Jason's planking picture by perching upon his back. See?

I wonder if I only have two subscribers because we're a group of twenty-somethings and we don't have kids, therefore our story isn't as appealing at the others?

ho hum.

Anyways, thanks to both my subscribers for following a long so far  :flower3:

I'm following along, too! I love all of your 'Ohana pictures - it's one of my favorites at WDW. And you are SO lucky to have such a guy like Jason - such a Prince Charming! Those flowers are so unique and gorgeous. I'm looking forward to the next installment!

Oohh, I can't wait to read more of your trip. You had me with your friends. You all remind me of me and my besties when we were that age. I would love if we would be able to take a girls trip to see Mickey Mouse!

You should definitely look into planning a girl's trip. Even though we had two guys with us, we were able to snag some girl time anyways and it was SO much fun. :)

Oh girl, don't I know it! I am SO lucky. He is my best friend and I will NEVER be letting him go.

Thank you so much for joining in! :flower3:

Joining in !! I loved the video you posted the other day. I only got to your second post and I have to head off to work, so I will catch up later. To avoid typing an entire update and having it bail, I type my TR's in Word and post them from there. That way, I have everything saved. I had to learn this the hard way, of course. Looking forward to reading more !!

Finally back to finish reading. Looks like you had a fantastic first day. It was so wonderful of your boyfriend to send you flowers like that. He seems like a keeper!!! I love all your photos and you look li,e such a fun group. Look forward to reading more !!!

After dinner at the Poly and wandering around the resort the first night, then spending an HOUR trying to get back to our resorts (buses were only running to DTD at that time, so we had to hop a bus to DTD and from there hop a bus to our resorts. The buses were CRAMMED full with people. No fun) and only getting into bed a full 24 hours after we had first woken, the six of us were some tired, tired pups the following morning. But we pulled ourselves out of bed extremely early because we had another HUGE day ahead of us:

The WDW newbies - Cassandra & Mandy - opted to spend the day exploring Animal Kingdom.

The WDW veterans - Jason, Steph, Kelly, and Jordan - decided it'd be a great day to head over to IOA and check out THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER!

Now, the girls had all decided that instead of using our cell phone alarm clocks like we would in the "real world", we'd go the magical route and have Mickey give us a call in the morning so we could start our day. So Wednesday night (2am Thursday morning, really) I set up our phone to receive a wake up call at 6am. BIGGEST. MISTAKE. EVER.

I was sleeping closest to the phone, so when the phone rang obnoxiously loud that morning, I reached over and hit "speaker" so we could ALL enjoy Mickey's phone call. SECOND. BIGGEST. MISTAKE. EVER

Anyone who has ever received the wake up call from Stitch knows where I'm going with this. The moment I pressed the speaker button and Stitch started yelling at decibels that could have ruptured not only our eardrums, but the eardrums of everyone else on the 3rd floor, I turned into a flailing fish out of water. Arms and legs went everywhere.:scared1: Though I had no problem finding the speakerphone button in a half-asleep state, finding it again (or even locating the receiver) in a terrified/panicky state was no easy task. The phone ended up hanging halfway off the nightstand before I managed to end the evil, evil phone call from places we shall not name.
Well, at least we were all awake now, eh?

After we all got cleaned up and dressed, we walked down to the bus stop and sent the newbies on their way. The boys pulled up a short time later in a cab and we then headed out to Islands of Adventure. Kelly and I are full-on Potterheads, so this trip was a BIG STINKIN' DEAL. We were updating our facebook statuses so that everyone at home knew exactly how big we were nerdin' it up that day. HOGWARTS BOUND, CHECK IT!

We arrived about 20 minutes before the gates opened, so we took this opportunity to take a few photos

DSCF1127.jpg

We are SO excited to be checkin' out Hogwarts!!

DSCF1128.jpg

Jason rubbing our awesomeness in everyone's faces via unnecessary Facebook status

As soon as the gates opened, we were full speed ahead towards Hogsmeade. I'm not as familiar with the Universal Parks as I am with the Disney ones, so I had to let Jason lead the way.

The moment Hogsmeade came into view, I did a little jig of complete happiness. I was absolutely stoked to see one of my favorite "stories" come to life!

DSCF1155.jpg

We got to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey early enough that the wait was only 10 minutes long! We didn't have much time to check out the inside of Hogwarts, but decided the ride was more important and we could check out the school afterwards. I will say that this ride was definitely one of my favorites, and definitely my favorite of the day. Aside from the spiders (I am an extreme arachnophobic), the attraction was everything I ever dreamed it would be. We ended up riding three times in a row before returning to the queue just to check out the inside of the castle.

After touring Hogwarts, we decided to wet our whistles at the Hog's Head. We all 4 ordered frozen butterbeer and it was AH-MAZING!

If the guys would have let us, Kelly and I would have hung out in Hogsmeade ALL day long. They only convinced us to leave by promising we'd return
for lunch and hit up the Three Broomsticks for fish & chips around 1pm.

Around 3pm, some ominous looking rain clouds were hovering overhead so we decided we'd head towards the exit. Lighting was closing all the big attractions anyways.

While loitering in a gift shop near the exit, Jason decided we should all head over to US and check out the park since the rain was likely sending everyone packing. He figured the only ride they'd close in that park would be Rip Ride Rocket, the huge outdoor rollercoaster. We purchased our tickets and headed over to Universal in the rain.

Jason was right and the park was more or less a ghost town. Most attractions had 5 to 20 minute waits, so we were able to do everything we wanted to do before we got too hungry to keep on going. The rain even let up long enough for us to catch a ride on Rip Ride Rocket (which was NOT a favorite of mine. I love coasters, but felt absolutely uneasy with the ride vehicle, the restraint, and the fact that we were riding when it started raining again).

Favorite ride at Universal? THE REVENGE OF THE MUMMY!
We rode it at least 3 times in a row, and we had a car full of unwelcome companions during one of our rides. See?
328752_651240578524_202302638_33653781_758656601_o.jpg

We left the park around 7pm and walked on over to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville for some dinner. We were hot, stinky, tired and just NOT in the mood for the girls on stilts screeching the lyrics to the songs. Bad choice on such a long day. I thought Kelly was going to beat one of the girls with her own stilts as she stood right next to our table and screamed EVERY WORD to Margaritaville. If you've watched our vacation video, you'll notice Kelly hanging her head in disgust somewhere around 1:57. :D

OH MY GOODNESS, I nearly forgot!
I was tempted to say that our Mummy ride photo was the best photo of the day, but my opinion changed the moment I opened up a picture message from Mandy.
Now, we hadn't exactly warned either of our newbie friends about Dinosaur, so neither of them knew what to expect. Actually, they didn't know ANYTHING about the ride. So the entire ride was a complete shock to them. Apparently, they got so scared while riding that Cassandra actually started crying. The best part? The camera caught it on film.

bahahaha. This picture still makes me burst out laughing

Jason and I have a friendly rivalry going here in Texas. We both have "edgy hair" and it really gets Jason's goat when we're out together and someone says something about my hair but doesn't notice his. He swears up and down that when I'm not around, people are always complimenting his 'do. But the moment we go somewhere together, its as though his "cool hair" is unnoticeable. When my hair gained the attention of a certain Photopass Photographer at Epcot and she gave our group a good 5 minutes of time with her that Friday, I maaaaaaay have rubbed it in his face a lil' bit. ;) Just to keep the rivalry going, of course.

We were all standing in line after entering the main gate at Epcot, waiting on the Photopass photographer when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around, and there was another Photopass Photog, this one a female, and she told me she just "loooooooved" my hair. She then had me do a little twirl or two in order to show it off to everyone around us and she asked if we wanted to step out of line so she could take our pictures for us.

She had us move on over to the left of the line of people who had been waiting, and there she had us do various poses with Spaceship Earth as our backdrop. The pictures started out normal:

but when she noticed that neither I, nor Jason, nor Mandy had taken off our sunglasses for the photos, she had us stand in the middle so the rest of the group could poke fun at us:

After she was done with those sets of photos, she had the girls stand on the ledge while the guys stood where they were and we got a completely new set of photos:

We had a lot of fun taking these photos with her, and this definitely made for "magical moment" #2 of our trip.

oh, and if you're wondering if we picked up a new friend a long the way, the answer is YES. That's "Q", a cast member friend of Jason's who was able to take the day off and come hang out with us instead of working his cushy office job on property.

After we finished posing, we ran over to Spaceship Earth where we met up with Cassandra's aunt & uncle who had driven in from Tampa for the day. We were able to do everything in Future World by 3pm but at that point the 4 veterans (and "Q") had to say goodbye and head back to our resorts to prepare for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party!

Obligatory "waiting in the TEST TRACK Queue" photos:
