Was wondering if I could bring a trial size Lysol(.8 oz) and Febreeze(2.8oz) with me on the plane in my carry on. The Lysol is a small aerosol can and didn't know if this made a difference. Or would it need to go in my luggage when checking in. Thanks!

Lysol aerosol is flammable; it is banned on commercial aircraft. If it is found in your luggage (carryon OR checked) it will be confiscated.

Yes you can take the aerosol lysol. Since it is under 3 oz. you can put it in your carryon.
This is straight from TSA's website:

What Can I Bring?

The following rules apply to all liquids, gels, and aerosols carried through security checkpoints.

1. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be in three-ounce or smaller containers. Larger containers that are half-full or toothpaste tubes rolled up are not allowed. Each container must be three ounces or smaller.
2. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be placed in a single, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. Gallon size bags or bags that are not zip-top such as fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed. Each traveler can use only one, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag.
3. Each traveler must remove their quart-sized plastic, zip-top bag from their carry-on and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.

There are exceptions for baby formula, breast milk, and other essential liquids, gels, and aerosols, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines (see details below).

I took Lysol spray with me (little purse size) put it in my 3 oz bag and had no problem.

I took it to and did not get in trouble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please avoid checking it in your luggage. Remember that airplan cargo isn't pressurized like in the seating area of the plane. So aerosol cans can explode in unpressurized environments. I'm sure this isn't going to hurt the plane at all, but it certainly would make a mess of your luggage :(

You may want to consider bringing wipes - especially if you were considering spraying it on the plane.

And your 3-oz or less liquids must go through security in a zip-top quart size plastic bag. The bag must be taken out of your carryon to go through the x-ray.

I also had my small aerosol can of Static Guard taken at the security check point. They told me it contained hazardous material and was not allowed to be in my checked bag either. They took my photo id, then I had to sign a log book that I had tried to bring on a hazmat. I was allowed to fly but what they didn't know was that it was that can's 4th time thru security that week but it was finally thrown away. I just wanted to keep my clothes from sticking to me in the cool dry air of Colorado. I had no ill intention, I promise.

If your item does get busted, just by some when you get there or opt for the lysol wipes.

We brought lysol wipes with us. They work well and you don't run the risk of others around you getting annoyed with the smells from the spray.

I think buying it upon arrival might be the only option if it gets taken. Everyone seems to say bring wipes, but maybe that's not what everyone else uses it for ;) ;) I bring it for other reasons which need not be mentioned. :lmao:

I just returned last night...I had my travel sized Lysol spray in my 3-1-1 baggie..no problem at Logan or MCO.

I didn't say that they never got by, just that they ARE banned. This is not a TSA ban, it is an FAA ban -- different set of rules, and the 3-1-1 baggie protection actually doesn't apply.

From the FAA website re: hazardous substances:

http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org...media/MaterialsCarriedByPassengersAndCrew.pdf

Allowed:
Toilet or medicinal articles that are hazardous materials such as rubbing
alcohol, flammable perfume and colognes, nail polish and remover, and aerosols (hairspray, shaving cream, etc.).

Not Allowed:
Hazardous materials that are not medicinal/toilet articles or described in
the other exceptions, such as: spray paints, aerosol laundry starch,
insecticides, drain cleaners, camping fuel, etc.

"Toilet or medicinal articles" has been defined in other regulations as being intended for ingestion or application directly on the human body. Lysol is not meant to be applied to your skin, therefore it is not an exception. Other non-exceptions include such seemingly harmless items as spray starch and static guard spray.

As Shocker pointed out, you won't get in trouble if you try to carry it through. A lot of the TSA's are clueless about the minutiae of the aerosol restrictions. Those that know and enforce this rule will only confiscate the stuff; they won't charge you with anything.

Not sure what I should do at this point. I'm somewhat of a germaphobe and wanted it so I could spray down door knobs, sink fixtures, etc. in the hotel room. I paid $3 for this tiny 0.8oz bottle and don't want it confiscated. I already have it packed in my carry on in a ziploc. Should I take my chances? I seem to get some conflicting answers as to whether I can bring it on or not :confused3

If you want to spray doors, sinks and fixtures, get some Lysol wipes.

Whether you'd get the spray confiscated or not apparently depends on whether the TSA agents at the airport feel like confiscating it. If you want to be safe, bring the spray, but also bring wipes.

Okay....take your chances. If they confiscate it, they confiscate it. You can also pack some Clorox wipes just in case they take away your mini-Lysol.
I have to say that my 3-1-1 baggie was never even picked up..just sat there, on top of the carryon bag...both times. Not one person touched it..maybe that's why I got mine through.

i've got my mini travel lysol aside for my 3-1-1 bag, but if they take it, they take it - whatever.
