lysol in checked bags?

Officially, it's banned as a flammable aerosol that is not part of the personal hygiene exception.

Unofficially, it often gets by if TSA doesn't have reason to open the bag, because the can is the same size as hairspray. If they do open the bag and see it, they will confiscate it, but you won't get into any trouble for packing it.

thanks I'm going to try bringing it I was going to add it to my garden grocer order but they are charging $7.00 for it:scared1: so I'll take my chances packing my oust:)

I had a can in my checked bag and they didn't take it. Maybe they didn't see it.:confused3 I didn't know you weren't supposed to take it.

Just please wrap the can in a hand towel and put it in a sealed heavy ziploc; just in case the pressure causes it to leak. You wouldn't want to ruin your luggage or clothing (or anyones else's) if it dribbled out.

Toiletries are personal use items - things you'd use ON your body. Body wash, deoderant, shampoo, conditioner, liquid soap, shaving cream, nail polish, hand cream...things like that.

that is strange..i had no idea they were banned. I brought one of those mini cans with me in my purse last time we went...I love to spray down the room when I get there..door handles, bathroom, phone, remote control etc. We will be shipping our box of toiletries, princess dresses, and other stuff I dont feel like packing ahead of time before our next trip, I guess I will just ship it with that.

what do they mean by toiletries?

For that specific part of the TSA warning (regarding aerosols), I think they refer to aerosol hair spray and aerosol deodorants. They are not allowed in checked or carry-on bags because of the flammability.

Hair spray and aerosol deodorant spray (and aerosol sunscreen, too, btw) *ARE* allowed in checked baggage under the toiletries exception to the general aerosol ban.

To qualify as a toiletry so as to be allowed in baggage, the TSA's usual rule of thumb is that the aerosol must be intended for direct application to the surface of the human body. The three most commonly-confiscated items that people lose due to this rule are spray starch, Static Guard spray, and Lysol.

If non-toiletry aerosols are seen they will be confiscated, but apparently the danger is not really severe when small quantities are involved. If it were then TSA folks would be told to actively search for them by opening every checked bag that reveals the outline of a spray can, and right now they don't do that. On beach trips I routinely check a bag that contains upwards of 15 cans of aerosol sunscreen, and I've never had them open it.
