Ok we have been to Disney over 20 times and this is a first for us. We are staying at WL 8/09- 8/13. We are flying in to MCO and taking magical express to the hotel. However we are not returning home straight from disney we are going to visit relatives. We were able to rent a car for the second part of our trip for a really good deal except the car has to be picked up at MCO. So we need to get to MCO from disney. Taxis want 55-65 and disney will not allow us to take the magical express bus. I saw info about the Lynx public transportation that goes from disney village to the airport for 2.00 LOL has anyone every taken the public buses before. Please advise.

It sounds like you need to get to MCO on the day you check out of your resort. If so, you can take DME. You don't actually have to be flying out that day.

I don't know if ME would work for you but before the advent of ME we used Lynx several times to travel from MCO to Disney and back. The drivers were friendly and helpful. The cost was super cheap and the time frame is about the same as what ME is now. All is all is was easy to do.

Several times it was just DD and I and I never felt uneasy or unsafe.

Their website had routes and information on it. http://www.golynx.com/

Here is the link to one of the LYNX Disney routes 111: http://www.golynx.com/assets/userfiles/routemaps/111.pdf

Not sure why someone told you that you couldn't use DME to get to the airport to get your car. I'm assuming that you want to get to MCO on the day you checkout of WDW?? If so, you should have no problem at all. Everyone that stays at WDW is entitled to a ride to the resort and back to the airport.
If you are, in fact, renting the car on your checkout day, you can just give DME fictitious flight info....find a flight that departs 3 hrs after you want to get to MCO. Say you need to pick your car up at 9am. YOu need to get flight info for a flight departing at 11:30...that means they will give you a pickup time of about 8:30.

Or you can just tell them you need to get to the airport that day about x o'clock to pick up a rental car. I have.

OP I agree here. I think perhaps you are misinformed,:confused3 you certainly can get back to MCO by magical express....regardless if you are flying out that day or not....you get TWO way transportation, but if you feel unsure, give them any flight that day, 3 hour time frame as mentioned above.
By the way, did you know there is car rental AT disney? They pick you up at the resort and take you right to the counter...get your car, and on your way you go... My mind is slow, I forgot the company, perhaps it is the one you are using???
If not, take ME back to airport,
As an FYI, I have used LYNX, they are cheap, its PUBLIC transportation, it is typical public transportation, you need EXACT change, you need to get to transportation hub at Disney (not sure where else they can get you)
BUT
you really could/should be using ME,
Good Luck and have a wonderful trip!

West Side bus area, near Cirque, at Downtown Disney. When I set up my return trip, the CM pointed out that I could rent a car on site (Alamo or National). While I was renting from Alamo, I saved almost $200 by returning to the airport.

And I'd like to point out an example of the sacrifices our Moderators make for us. goofy4tink was landing at MCO about the time I was picking up my car but declined my offer of door to door transport so she could research the Mears Shuttle for this board!

Is there a reason you are not picking up the car from the Customer Car Center rather than at the airport? They offer free courtesy pick up from your hotel, so you don't have to go all the way to the airport. You can also rent a car from some of the hotel locations at DTD. You can always return the car to the airport when you are finished with it, and save some hassle.

And, I got to have some really interesting conversation with the others in the van and got to see some parts of Orlando I had never seen before. But, I did miss out on your company!!

Probably because they got a really good rate at MCO. I have almost always gotten better rates when picking up at MCO vs onsite at WDW. Sometimes it's more than worth it to take a little hassle to save money.

By being persistent, I was able to get an Emerald Aisle (National) reservation with an MCO pickup for about $80 for eight days. The same reservation on-site would have cost me somewhere between $250 and $260.

I have used ME to go and get a rental car from MCO. The price to rent at Disney was 4 times the price I paid at the airport. Well worth the effort to back to the airport to rent.

Thanks everyone for all your thoughful responses. the rate we got picking up at MCO was much cheaper then on disney property. I will try again to use the ME from our resort if not I'm am confident now that Lynx will do just fine.
Have a magical day everyone .
