Every year, DH and I have lunch at San Angel Inn in Mexico. It is wonderfully romantic and we have some great memories of it! However, I'm allergic to peppers and we don't like anything spicy, so it usually takes a little finagling with the server to get a light lunch that we can enjoy.

We've never tried Marrakesh, and I'm curious. We've never really tried Morrocan food, but I've heard enough good things that I'm interested.

DH doesn't want to give up San Angel Inn because the atmosphere is so amazing. What is the atmosphere like at Marrakesh?

What do you think? Mexico or Morrocco?

You may have the same trouble with spices at Morocco as most of that type of food is heavily seasoned. Why not do appetizers and drinks at St. Angel and then head out to another country for dinner. Our family favorites are Germany and Canada; France has it's own appeal and England has some wonderful entrees. Get on allearsnet.com and check out the exact menu items. Think of it as building some new memories :flower: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

I guess if you've never had Mediterranean food, Morocco wouldn't be bad. We have so many great Mediterranean restaurants here that Marrakesh tends to pale in comparison. Marrakesh's version is fairly bland and the spice level is low.

Same with San Angel Inn, though we've been enough times to know exactly what not to order. We're even going tonight, but that's just for a dish they offer only in September and I can't get anywhere else.

I know you're asking for one or the other, but I'd recommend Le Cellier, Chefs de France, or Rose and Crown over either of those two.

I really enjoy Marrakesh. The food is seasoned but not burn-your-mouth or make-your-nose-run spicy. It's Disneyfied medit. food, so it's easier on those who've never tried food like it. The atmosphere is fun. It can be a bit loud when the musicians are playing and the dancer is doing her thing, but it's a unique experience. I say give it a go.

Marrakesh is not spicy at all - as in spicy hot. It's unique spices, yes, and I love it. But it's very toned down in comparison to REAL mediterrean restaurants.

I would always choose a new restaurant over one I've been to before. Marrakesh is great, and the belly dancer is fun!

cassi, what did you have that wasn't spicey at San Angel? Or I guess the better question is, what did you leave off? We don't like spicey (hot) food either but want to eat there on our next trip.

I think we normally share this: Nachos de Pollo - border creation of tortilla chips topped with grilled chicken, red sauce, melted cheese, chorizo, jalapenos, tomatoes, and sour cream $13.75 (Thanks Allearsnet.com for providing menus! ;)

We leave off the jalepenos and ask for the red sauce on the side. The red sauce is really good, just a little hot. I don't remember what chorizo is (just looked it up on dictionary.com "A very spicy pork sausage seasoned especially with garlic") but I think we probably leave that off too.

So basically grilled chicken, melted cheese, tomatoes and sour cream over torilla chips with the red sauce on the side that we drizzle over to our liking!

Oh dear... maybe I'm talking myself into going back for this trip!

We were REALLY disappointed at our lunch at Marrakesh. I was looking forward to this meal because I'd never been before, but all of us found the food to be passable at best. It wasn't terrible, just nothing memorable, and nothing I would ever return for.

The service however, was the worst I have ever had at WDW. Our server was extremely rude, didn't utter a word to us, just plopped the food on the table and never returned until it was time to drop off the check. We planned on dessert so when he brought the check we had to tell him we wanted something else. He actually sighed and rolled his eyes at us! It actually would have been laughable if we didn't spend over $75 to walk out of there still hungry.

We won't be returning to Marrakesh. In fact, we later joked that they were the only restaurant that had to set up a recruiting booth outside of the pavilion! :teeth:

Morocco would be great but the food is all spices - not spicy. I would call or inquire before sitting down to lunch.

We love SAI!

Ohmigosh! When was this? Hopefully a while ago and that server has since been long gone I hope! :confused3

The atmosphere is great at San Angel Inn, but I didn't like the food. I love the atmosphere and the food at Restaurant Marrakesh. It's a little exotic, but nothing too out there, as I'm not horribly adventurous. Marrakesh has become one of our "must dos" now. :)

A suggestion---just do Marakesh for dessert if you are concerned about the food. We did this and the dessert was awesome and we got to experience the belly dancing!!! Very fun and cultural! we had Apple crepes---yummmmmm

We really enjoy the food at Marrakesh and the spices are different. More cinnamon and nutmeg, rather than peppers and various degrees of heat. Plus I would go just for the couscous......oh, and the belly dancer! I definitely prefer Marrakesh to San Angel. Other than the atmosphere at San Angel, I always found the food pretty generic.

We prefer the food and atmosphere at Marakkesh hands down. We don't even eat at San Angel anymore. Enjoy!

I tried Marrakesh for the first time in April and loved it. I had the chef's special: bread and salad that was tasty but not weird, a brewat roll that I didn't care for but was not heatedly spicy, then a chicken shish kabob with rice on a tomato sauce and a tomato and cucumber side. Dessert was the apple crepes. My server was great, although the CM at the podium was rude - I checked in 10 minutes early and she basically told me to go away - so I sat in the waiting area directly across from her and smiled brightly every time she looked my way. The decor doesn't have the same type of ambiance as San Angel, but is gorgeous. Given the choice of only one or the other, I'd go to Marrakesh.
