We are scheduled to arrive at 10:AM in MCO and plan to take the scenic route( Bee Line to A1A) down the coast to VB.
Question is does anyone have recomendations on things to see and places to have lunch along the way.

Arrive 9/2 :smooth:

Others may have suggestions as to things to do. I just wanted to caution that if you want to eat before arriving at Vero, you should do it before leaving the Melbourne area. There's not a lot of development between there and Vero.

On our last trip we stopped at the new mall and then drove to VB. I ment to get on I-95 but ended up on a high priced toll road. I stayed on the road cause I went through the ticket machine. There is a Citgo station in the middle of the road with some fast food. I am not sure if this was the bee line. ( signs along the way said "Ronald Reagan Highway" Any way, it cost $8.50 at the exit for VB. I thought it was worth it. We were the only car on the road and I-95 end up having construction delays. ( I found this out cause I came back by 95 ) Once you get off and head for VB, you pass by alot of orange groves. You come up by the mall and outlet shops at the city of VB. Its not far from A1A.

Slim Pickings....

Last week we ended up in Sebastian for lunch one day and one member in our group had a craving for Subway the next day....THAT was a jouney in itself! Thank goodness for our trusty GPS portable unit!!!!!

Canda, you were on the FL Turnpike. Once you are on there, that's not much between you and the ocean so you might as well keep going. This is a north-south alternative to I-95 or A1A. As you found out, you take SR-60 across instead of the Beeline. It's not a bad way to go except SR-60 can be pretty desolate and I don't think I'd like to travel it in a storm. (Busy two-lane road with ranches/orange groves on either side. Nowhere to stop really between Vero Beach and the Turnpike.)

Pinnie, did you also head into Vero Beach? Down in the town proper and then out on SR-60 you'll find more options.

For next time, here's a list of the Subway shops. ;)

Thanks Pam...we are Subway groupies!!!

We ended up at the Subway in Indian River Mall!

We did our grocery shopping in Sebastian....made spaghetti the first night and Chicken Caeser Salad the second night...and we even baked cookies!!!!!

We pretty much just hung out at the resort, a;though the pool was closed often due to storms and the riptide warning was out on the beach!!!

DH and I stopped in Melbourne at the Steak n Shake when we went to Vero in May. Steak n Shake is fast food - but - they were one of the originals in the midwest. Shakes are hand dipped, thick and creamy. Fries are super thin and fried crisp -- burgers are thin (go for a double!!) but the fixins makes up for it.

We are both originally from the St. Louis area, so to find this "little bit of home" was delightful. It ain't gourmet, but we think it's great.

Right after you exit I-95 onto 512, there's a McDonald's on the right..

We have grabbed a bite there in the past...

There's a Subway right next to the close Publix on Route 1 near the Vero Resort. You can pick up a few subs, keep them in teh fridge, and enjoy them by the pool or on the beach the next couple of days. Also works with the Chinese food place in teh same Publix shopping center.
