Lulu201's Healthy Living Journal--Just trying my best to walk the walk! Come on by!

:umbrella: Good morning! :goodvibes It's a cloudy, cool day in PA, but the rain has stopped. Checked the studio last night around 7:00 and everything was OK; sure hope it's still that way!

Yesterday I had a little run in with some chocolate; I was crabby. Got out the calendar for a little consultation--yep, Day #24 of the old TOM cycle. Fell asleep around 8 p.m. and slept this morning 'til 7:00. All par for the course. I ended up working a longer day than planned yesterday, but I got lots of stuff done. No housework, of course  , but lots of stuff for the studio.

Today is not going to be the kind of Sunday I like, but sometimes you've just gotta motor on through. :moped: This morning I have church and then a class, will pick up some fruits and veggies afterward, and will then take DD shopping for her dress. How many of these fancy dances can there be a year???? Not many, I hope, or I'm going to have to start a budget line for formal wear! :p DD has choir practice at 6, so we'll come home in a rush so she can eat and get to rehearsal and then the day will be over! Like I said, not my favorite kind of Sunday, but I think we can have a good time if I just forget about the laundry that I haven't gotten to.

Today's plan:

1. Devotions :) Tracy, thanks for your post about yesterday. :goodvibes
Daily Thoughts:
A Time to Think:
The greatest wastes are unused talents and untried ideas. --Anonymous
To Act:
Avoid being judgmental and your personal peace will increase.
To Pray:
Dear God, on those days when life stops and I am entombed, may I not fear the grave but trust You to raise me to new life.
2. Vitamins--will take
3. Water--will drink
4. Exercise--will walk the dog if it doesn't rain again.
5. Food--breakfast, lunch, and dinner with protein. No candy. High carb snack before bed.
6. Scale--didn't get on this morning.
7. Caffeine--1 mug this a.m., one cup of green tea later in the day.

That's it--I've got to run.
Erin

Wow, sure will be a busy day for you! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: to chase away the clouds. :p

I've got October 22nd marked for some Erin-time. :teeth: I'm sure we'll be able to raise your mood and help you de-stress before the 23rd and its challenges. ::yes::

, dear WISH-sis!

Good morning Erin!

I'm glad to hear that you found the studio to be good so far. :goodvibes Hopefully, you'll see lots and lots of :sunny: soon and won't need to be concerned about the :umbrella:.

I was just thinking... how did your DD's audition go? I can't remember what you said.

I hope you have a wonderful Monday! :sunny:

Aww, sheesh. I didn't do so well yesterday. I stayed strong at the mall and didn't have anything off-plan, but I ended the evening with a trip to DQueen and a small blizzard. Thank goodness today is a new day.

Here's how it's looking:

1. Devotions :)
Daily Thoughts:
A Time to Think:
Sometimes it's hard to avoid the happiness of others. -Anonymous
To Act:
Be patient, have faith and work towards what you desire.
To Pray:
Dear Lord, thank You for giving us a fresh start each day to begin anew.
2. Vitamins--forgot yesterday :guilty: , but will do it today.
3. Water--have my big mug beside me. :)
4. Exercise--walked Mickey in the park for his 1.25 (it felt so good to be in the cool, crisp air, even if it was cloudy!) and rode my bike for 15 minutes.
5. Food--I woke up this morning and asked God for help. I just can't do it alone, particularly during the DZone. I'm going to work to stay OP for today.
Breakfast was cinnamon walnut oatmeal with milk and splenda, coffee w/milk.
Lunch will be chicken and something. Dinner will be a tuna sandwich and some veggies. I'm going to have a whole grain english muffin before bed.
6. Scale--just didn't want to do it today.
7. Caffeine--1 mug this a.m., 1 cup of green tea later. I don't think I had a cup later in the day yesterday. . .:scratchin

I began a class at church yesterday called "40 Days of Purpose," based on Rick Warren's book "The Purpose Driven Life." I've read the book before ( I know I wrote this before) and it's is so powerful; it's going to be neat hearing what other people in the class have to say about it. It's really cool to see all the people at church walking around with it and talking about it. You know I love deep discussions. . .I hope that we get into them in class. Our facilitator, though, is an engineer. Can guys with that background think in the abstract? :p

Now I'm off to look up more info on Scott Joplin, the composer we're focusing on in my group piano classes this weekend. If anyone out there wants to come over and play some rag-time for the kids, let me know! :p

:grouphug: Hugs all around,
Erin

P.S. Tracy, DD is now a member of the Women's Ensemble, a small select group of 10-12th graders! She didn't make the Select Ensemble (a mixed group), but only 6 sophomores did, so she wasn't too upset. Thanks for asking. :)

Yeah Erin! :cheer2:

Please congratulate your DD for me! :goodvibes That is great that she made Women's Ensemble!!! :Pinkbounc I'm sure she was a little disappointed about the Select Ensemble, but I bet the experience she gains with the Women's Ensemble this year will definitely help her make it for next year! ::yes:: Way to go, Erin's DD!!!! :cheer2: :jumping1:

Thanks, Tracy, for the celebration. Liz seems to be enjoying this group a lot.

Today's October 11, 2005--I just realized my sister's birthday is on Friday. I'd better get on the stick and get her birthday card into the mail!

Yesterday was a good day, healthy living-wise and other-wise. Today's looking like this:

1. Devotions: :) "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us." Ephesians 2:10 That's my memory verse for my Purpose Driven Life class. Hope I got it right.
2. Vitamins--will take
3. Water--will drink
4. Exercise--Mickey and I don't walk in this kind of weather. :guilty:
5. Food--yesterday, with God's grace, I stayed on plan! Here's my plan for today:
b--strawberry-walnut-cottage cheese-oatmeal (don't knock it 'til you've tried it! :p ), coffee w/milk
l--fresh veggies, an apple, and a pb sandwich on rye bread (that's the only whole grain I've got on hand)
d--salad at saladworks OR whole wheat spaghetti at home
s--wwheat english muffin before bed
6. Scale-- still not interested in looking at it. Maybe on Friday?
7. Caffeine--just my a.m. coffee yesterday; no green tea (no time!)

Ooh, I'm feeling the need for some sunshine. Did you get that light box, Doreen?

Speaking of Doreen, she's inspired me to do a little housework before I go to work this morning. I guess I'd better get on it.

Have a good day, everyone.
Erin

You lost me at cottage cheese :crazy2:
Congratulations to your DD on making the choir - that is awesome! I bet she'll make Select next year for sure. Just another year of practice and to grow in strength and confidence in her voice.

Great Job yesterday with the plan! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Lets make it two in a row okay?

~Amanda

Hi Erin,

Congratulations to DD on making the choir. I am sur she will make the Select Ensemble next year. In the meantime, it is fun, new friends, and experience. It also looks great for college.

Your LeCellier lunch sounds wonderful. We have an ADR for dinner before CP in December.

It seems that you are doing a great job transitioning back into "real life." Keep up the good work.
Take care,
Beth

Hi, Beth. :wave2: Hey, Amanda. :wave2: Glad you could stop by. :goodvibes

Oh, come on, Amanda! What do you mean, I "lost" you "at cottage cheese"? :confused3 I thought you were an adventuresome eater! :p Honestly, I was preparing myself to dump the whole thing down the garbage disposal if I didn't like it, but the cottage cheese actually melts into the oatmeal (yeah, I know, it's still not appetizing) and just makes it a creamier, more protein-rich meal! Try it, you'll like it! :p

All right now, down to business. Yesterday was a good day, though I think I forgot my vitamins. I had to really look Up when I passed the candy at work yesterday, but I made it. :Pinkbounc Stuck completely to my plan except for my late night english muffin--I fell asleep before I could eat it!

Today's plan:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--have started.
4. Exercise--was raining when it was time for Mickey's mile, but now it's stopped, so we might get out for a stroll around the block. Other than that, I don't think I'll be able to do much. I will be doing a lot of movement with the kids today in class.
5. Food--breakfast was my strawberry walnut oatmeal "surprise." :) Lunch will be a McDonald's salad. Dinner will be a tuna sandwich, apple, and veggies. Late night snack will be my whole grain english muffin. If my chocolate cravings get wild (this is Day #28 in the DZone, after all), I may have to dig up some s.f. hot chocolate for the mid-afternoon. Maybe I'll have a cup of green tea instead?
6. Scale--still not on it, but feel less bloated.
7. Caffeine--steady on the a.m. mug

I've been going to sleep around 9 p.m. (or earlier!) the last few days; it's my way to "give in" to the effects of the DZone. Today's the first day that I'm feeling the fatigue in the a.m. so strongly. . .but that's OK, I can deal.

Moving onward, looking Upward, trying to stay OP just for today--
Erin

Yea no, your description doesn't help! I am an adventurous eater and I have tried cottage cheese
vomit-smiley-012.gif
Not my favorite ;)

Great job yesterday on avoiding the candy. I got a candy craving myself about 4pm but I stuck through it. I know you will make today a success. Going for that brisk walk this morning will help clear the fatigue you are feeling. And if need be you could indulge yourself with just a little coffee.

~Amanda

Hang on for a few more days of that DZone roller coaster and you'll be home-free!! I'm impressed at your willpower! You're sticking like glue to your plan and we both know that pays huge dividends.

:cheer2: You Go, Girl!! :cheer2:

October 13. 2005

Good morning, friends. :grouphug:

Yesterday I was able to stay on track. :Pinkbounc I had to pray for strength a couple of times, but I made it through. Even took the vitamins. :)

Today's plan:

1. Devotions :)
A Time to Think:
Let no one come to you without leaving better and happier. -Mother Teresa
To Act:
Always look to the good you can do in every situation.
To Pray:
Lord, thank You for the wise words of others that help me be a better person.
That prayer immediately made me think of all my friends on the WISH; your wise words have influenced my life in so many ways.
2. Vitamins--will do
3. Water--will drink lots
4. Exercise--might take Mickey out for a walk
5. Food--The plan is for oatmeal surprise for breakfast, a lunch with protein, and a dinner w/pb sandwich, apples, and veggies. Carb snack before bed.
6. Scale--I so happy without it right now. . .I feel so much better just following the program that I'm afraid if I know my numbers, my emphasis will shift and I'll measure my success on the scale--rather than on how I feel.
7. Caffeine--had my a.m. mug and a cup of green tea mid-afternoon. What can I say, it was a long day! I might, however, have green tea this a.m. just to see how I feel without the "hard stuff."

I'm on my way to the drs. office for some bloodwork. Have to have the blood sugar numbers checked. Next Thursday I'll go for the follow-up consultation with the doc.

I'm going to hop in the shower and get going. Later this a.m. I'll pick up DD from a friend's sleepover--they don't have school today--and then I'll head to work. Can't wait to come back home to my jammies at 8!

I don't know if I'll get to anyone's journal today, but know I'm thinking about all of my WISH friends! :grouphug:

Erin :flower:

Erin, that quote from Mother Teresa in your devotions today is one of my all-time favorites and one that I do try to live by. :goodvibes

You've been doing an outstanding job of taking care of yourself through this DZone. Your food choices and your commitment to getting the rest you need are inspirational to me. :flower:

Sounds like you've got a busy day on tap. :boat: Sail on through, sweetie!

 and

Morning Erin! You sound ready to tackle the day. Keep up the great work and let us know what your Dr. says.

~Amanda

Morning Erin....you have inspired me to start posting to my Journal again.

Good thoughts coming your way for your doctors appt.

Good morning Erin,

Way to go staying on track yesterday! :cheer2: Mark that down as a VICTORY! :cheer2: Woohoo! :jumping1:

I hope you have a wonderful day today! :sunny: Take care!

What do you know? It's Friday! :cool1:

I need to take a moment for a sunshine break: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: It's been raining every day for over a week and my soul needs to see the sun!
From what the weathergirl says, it's supposed to come out tomorrow afternoon.

Yesterday was a "stay on track" kind of day. It wasn't easy. . .by 6:30 the Reese Cups from the candy sale were calling my name, but I just couldn't give in. . .it wasn't worth it. I knew it was just going to encourage a roller coaster of cravings if I gave in and that I would lose control of my eating over the next few days (I'm at Day #30 and waiting for that TOM to finally roll in and out). As it was, I had a high-carb pizza lunch and by 3:30 I was feeling tense, tired, and miserable--the first PMS symptoms of the month (besides some cramping and fatigue). It's important for me to journal all this so that I can see how good I feel when I'm conscientious about my food. If I can eat 3 meals a day with protein and have my high carb late night snack, I just plain feel better. It's been amazing for me to learn the impact lousy eating has on how I feel. It's funny how something as basic as eating properly can be so hard to do, but when I take what I've learned in "The Highly Sensitive Person" and "Potatoes Not Prozac" I feel like I'm getting a handle on who I am and what's good for me. Finally. :goodvibes

So, here's the plan for today:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins--I can't forget!
3. Water--I'm also noticing that when my energy begins to slide during the day that I'm getting dehydrated and need some H2O refreshment!
4. Exercise--it's still raining, but I took Mickey for a little stroll around the block.
5. Food--oatmeal surprise for breakfast :p , lunch will be a salad, and I'm not sure about dinner.
6. Scale--I felt OK about getting on it today. I was back to 185.
7. Caffeine--This morning I'm having green tea for breakfast instead of coffee. Just seemed right today.

So, that's the scoop. I'm hoping for a quiet night at home tonight when work is done at 6:30. :cloud9:

Love to all,
Erin

You are doing an amazing job of kicking that DZone to the curb this time around! :cool1: Your ability to stay on track is awe-inspiring! :Pinkbounc

Yay for that scale!! :cheer2:

Thanks for your words of encouragement in my journal.

OK, so today I hit the ole perimenopausal wall. TOM is here with a vengence. I'm sitting here on the floor seeing stars spinning around my head! :p Oh maybe it's not that dramatic. . .but I still feel kinda like a dishrag as my hormones come crashing down all around me.

Still, I gotta smile. The :sunny: is out, the air is cool. . .it's a Fall day, that's for sure. As far as healthy living over the weekend goes--I have to admit I tanked. Fell off the wagon and then was run over by it. No vitamins, not enough water, sugar--you name it I ate it. Came back off of sugar yesterday, though, and with God's help, will abstain again today. I know I have to make to Friday if I'm going to properly "detox."

Anyway, here's the plan:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins--must do this today
3. Water--must drink
4. Exercise--must walk w/Mickey for a least a little while
5. Food--oatmeal surprise for breakfast; will eat protein at every meal
6. Scale--didn't go there, won't until Friday
7. Caffeine--had my mug this a.m. I can't make any promises about the rest of the day.

I'm going to go cuddle up with the pup for awhile and then try to get on with the day. How's that sound for enthusiasm? ;) I know, though, that this too will pass. . .

Erin
