luggage tags??

I have found do-it-yourself laminated luggage tag kits at Wal-Mart in the stationery section. I am using the Mickey paint chips from Home Depot and cutting a piece of card stock the same size to put on the back with our information. We are traveling to Disney World in a large group (10 in all) and have let everyone pick out a different color paint chip for their luggage tag.

You guys are all so smart!! :wizard:

Great ideas!!! here is my tip if anyone is interested.... on my luggage tags:

Mary Smith
15 America Way, Washington, DC xxxxx
(xxx) xxx-xxxx cell phone
Staying Sept. 14-20, 2006
Disney's Pop Century
Disney's phone (407) xxx-xxxx (number to pop)

That way if the luggage is lost on the way down, they know where to deliver it. And we usually have someone staying at our house...

I usually make "hidden mickey's" out of black construction paper and decorate them with corresponding count down numbers and hide one every day around the house.. (Did I mention I do this for my 41yr old husband?) :teeth:
I put them in various places and he loves it..
ex. on his rearview mirror, in the microwave, inside his napkin packed in his lunch, and my favorite..on the inside lid of the toilet...so when he picks it up to pee  there mickey is...

Anyway, you all got me thinking that maybe I could "borrow" some of these Mickey shaped paint chips :artist: from Home Depot...

On our last trip to Disney, our bag got switched with the guy next to us - we never thought it would happen to us!! (haha) He even had a small ribbon on the handle - didn't help when you're rushed, etc. We lost a whole day from our trip trying to get it back - SO frustrating!!! (Though, I still chuckle about the image of my husband hand washing his 'drawers' in the sink!)

So, though I'm not crafty at all, this will NOT happen to me again - we paid too darn much for that trip. I got one nice stencil (a kind of indian inspired look to it...) and a nice color paint and am going to stencil all the heck out of all the black luggage we have!! No ones luggage will match mine. My own personal, designer look - for pennies on the dollar! Eat your heart out Louis Vitton!!!)

what are these paint chips? are they sample color cards or something?

Yeah, thats exactly what they are, you can get them at home depot.

I thought about something to make my bags stand out, but then I realized that with Magical Express it doesn't matter. I won't be the one picking out my bags anyway. Except when I go home, and then I don't care how long it takes me to locate my bags at baggage claim, I won't be in as much of a hurry to get home as I was to get to the resort.

Some stores sell unusual luggage tags. Target last year had their outdoor collection. Frogs, ladybugs and the like. While our bags are like everyone elses, the tags stand out.

The ribbons remind me of a commercial where you see each black suitcase with a red ribbon tied to it. The best idea is make it unique to you. Someone tried to grab my bag, then noticed the Frog. They then asked where they could find something like that. When in doubt, look for a kids tag, afterall, you are travelling to WDW to be a kid!

HI Ya'll,
Oldcrow, I didnt realize what a big deal is was until our trip to Disney last summer. The problem is other people grabbing your bags by mistake. It can happen as they quickly grab them off the carosel - or like what happened to us, probably looked like something in a sit-com to someone watching. We were in the line to check in next to someone w/ a VERY similar bag (color and size) and when we all walked away we'd swithced bags unknowingly. My poor husband didnt have any of his stuff for 3 days. Besdies that I lost a whole day of vaction going back to the airport to try and get it once they found it (which, they then lost again!!!) Normally, once they find it (if they find it) They will bring it to your hotle - but they wouldnt with ours because they said the switch was our fault. Like I said earlier, this will NOT happen again - it was a royal pain!!! (I too will never buy black luggage again but want to get my full useage from this I have now. Stencils here I come!!)
Good luck!!!

Believe it or not there are people that go to airports and take(as in steal  )luggage that looks like everyone elses. Because if you saw someone grab your suitcase and told them it was yours, they would say.. "oh looks just like mine"

Since our ME tags almost didn't arrive on time for our trip (somehow they had our trip entered for July instead of June) I made luggage tags out of bright yellow craft foam I bought at Michaels. I cut out Mickey heads, entered the last names of our two families that traveled together, listed our resort, and on the back, put mine & DH's cell phone number. I bought some multi colored ribbon to attach them to our luggage. Our ME tags did arrive on time, but it made finding them when we came home SO much easier! I plan on using them again for our next trip, even tho' the other family won't be coming with us, I'll find a way to take their names off the tags!

My thoughts exactly. I would add that all those Mickeys scream TOURIST!!!! which may also make your bags a target. However, with the DME service your bags shouldn't even make it to the baggage claim area. I am a little cynical about all of this now since you can't realistically lock bags anymore. At any point in the process someone with a Cruella streak could mess up your trip.

Just gotta say I love the comment about defiling the new luggage with flourescent duct tape. It is a little hard to walk away steathily with something like that :thumbsup2

Hmmm...I tied big red ribbons on our luggage. Next time, I will choose a more interesting color, but red was all I had on hand. A couple others had red bows, too, but there were still more that were just plain black. Our luggage tags were a bit unique-countertop sample chips. I spray painted them white to use as nametags for summer camp last year, and had extras. I wrote our name in big letters on the white side and stuck an address label on the back side, covering it with clear tape. I put our lodging info and flight numbers inside the outer pockets, just in case.
