What do you put on your luggage tag?

the hotel you are staying at? your home address? I'm in the process of making my tags, picked up the lime green mickey paint samples from home depot.

First initial, last name. I use address labels and put them inside the bags.

If you have a cellular/mobile number make sure it is on tag. I have my mobile number on business card so if my luggage is stolen they won't know my home address to come rob me blind at home. I have a laminated biz card as my luggage tag. I always put a copy of my itinerary inside of my luggage if I will be travelling around.

what happens if our luggage is lost? I'm assuming it will get to the orlando airport due to the tags on the bag when checking in but how do they reach you or do they even do that?

Thanks

You should always provide contact telephone numbers for your permanent home address and your local number, i.e., the hotel you are staying at. Agents always look into the reservation to find those numbers particularly if your luggage gets mishandled...

As far as luggage tags, you should always include your full name, permanent home address with zip code, telephone numbers, and I have also seen routing information (MSP to MCO, for example). It is best NOT to put your destination address/hotel on your luggage as that is not your residence of record.

Should your luggage be lost, although chances are it won't be, you simply file a claim with your airline's baggage service office.

I hate to disagree but you shouldn't put your home address on your luggage tag. There have been many shows on 20/20, Dateline that warn against that.

Put your name and a contact number while traveling. You should also put a copy of your flights and hotel info in the suitcase in case it gets lost. They can contact you that way.

Also be prepared to describe the suitcase. Know the type and make if possible. It will make it easier to locate your suitcase if you give more details when you file a missing suitcase claim.

Yes, actually SafetyMom is thinking safety!!

Some people do not advocate putting addresses on luggage.

Most airlines use a system called World Tracer to track down lost luggage. Its very effective. Also, airlines utilize a program called BMAS Baggage Management Automated System. Either one is querried to find luggage that is mishandled. Recovery rates are extremely good. But a new player in the civil aviation field needs to be mentioned when it comes to lost and pilfered luggage: The Transporation Security Administration. They are the source of many mishandled bags as a result of their screening procedures which can delay your bag getting to the aircraft. A claim for lost luggage with an airline should be filed in addition to a claim for lost luggage with TSA.

But the chances are very, very good that IF your bag does get mishandled, you will get it recovered in about 24 hours...

We stick one of my dh's business cards in it. It has his work and cell phone numbers on it. We always travel with his cell phone, so we are reachable. No address labels. Used to do that then we were told that was a bad idea.
