We have never done a split stay so we never needed this service until now. We are hosting our DD and DGS this May. She changed her plan recently and will be arriving a day before us. We set her up at SSR for the first night. Can she, and how does she, get her luggage from SSR to VGF without dragging them on the bus? Thanks for the advise.

Move steps:
Have your items packed and ready for pickup.
On move day call Bell Services to come and pickup your items.
Tell Bell Services which items are to be keep cold and which frozen.
Go check-in to new resort and do whatever you have planned for the day.
When the room is ready and after @ 2-4 go to the room.
Call Bell Services of the check-in resort and they will deliver your items to the room.
You MUST be in the room for both the pickup and delivery.

Depending on how much she has, she can also just take it to Bell Services on the day of the move and go on about her day. I've always then just checked in at the main desk of the new hotel later that afternoon and stopped by Bell Services to pick up my luggage before going on to the room. Of course, I just have one carry-on bag so it's really easy for me to deal with. But she can check in before the luggage arrives, as pp says, or later in the day - they'll hold it! :-)

Make sure that your DD goes to the front desk and checks out at SSR. If SSR doesn't close her account, she won't be able to get access to the new room at VGF.

Bell Services will sometimes insist that they pick up and deliver the luggage, they want a tip, it isn't required.

That's exactly what I do. I've done lots of split stays, and some resorts have told me that they wouldn't come to my room for the luggage-I had to drop it off. And I've heard some bus drivers say they don't even allow luggage on the buses. The only time I've taken my luggage from one resort to another by myself was from BWV to BCV when I just rolled my suitcase with me across the boardwalk.

Luggage is not allowed on buses. Even if it were you were have to take a bus from resort to park or DTD and than to new resort, a big time waster. We always have Disney move our luggage, just make sure you have what you need for the day. I don't recommend it but you could take a cab from 1 resort to other as well.

This. The only two options for split stays are take a cab with your luggage to your new resort OR allow bell services to move your luggage knowing you'll be without for a few hours.

The above list in post 2 is great, but be sure to tell Bell Services you want the luggage transferred to the new resort and not store the luggage. Unless you tell them they won't know.

The only down fall is that it does take a number of hours for the transfer. She will not get her luggage back until after 3PM at the new resort. So if she plans to use the pool, she needs to keep a bag of the items she will need at the pool. She can always rent a locker at the park for the small bag, if she doesn't want to carry it around. The small lockers easily hold a small backpack.

This hasn't been the case for me! If you leave a credit card, you get express checkout...no reason at all to go and physically checkout. I have left my first resort (using express checkout as always) and gone to the new resort, checked in and been able to get right into my next villa.
As for Bell Services? If they move your bags, you should completely expect to tip them. Required? No. Expected and deserved? Yes.

I no longer depend on Bell Services to move my bags for me. I seldom, if ever, have had my bags at my new resort before 5pm!!! When I moved from BCV to
POR, it took 3 phone calls from Luggage Assistance at POR to get my bags moved....and they started calling at 3:30!!!!! The bags finally arrived around 6ish!!!
So now I just take a cab, with my bags, to the next resort. Even if my room isn't ready when I check in, my bags are still available to me if needed.

I have the same situation. Is Bell Services only open certain hours? And does that vary by resort?

Bell services are there and available 24 hours, but I suspect they only transfer luggage during certain times.

If the resort you are leaving doesn't close out your account you can't open the door at your new resort.

We checked out at VGF, moved to BWV, checked in and couldn't open our room door. Went back down to the front desk and the thought that they fixed it. Back to our room the door still won't open, back to the front desk.

45 minute wait, CM's trying different things at the counter and back room, then they called tech support.

Per tech support VGF had not closed our file yet even though we used express check out. They contacted VGF, they closed our file and we could open our door.

Not saying that wasn't your experience, it just hasn't been mine. Now, perhaps, I've been lucky and all the resorts I've checked out of, have processed my express checkout quickly. Which would mean that you should be good to to at any time after 11am....official checkout. I have left my first resort and gotten to the next resort before 10 and been able to get into my room.....as I said, perhaps I've just been lucky.
