Starring….

Angel (aka Mandy)…. Mum extraordinaire, teenager at heart, loves to shop
Becky (17)…………………daughter, rock star, budding artist, also loves shopping

Background: trip was booked last minute (just the week before we left) by my lovely DH as a special treat for us girls to help us relax after a tough year, while he works, poor thing. We’re travelling with MyTravel to Pop Century for a week in the sun….

7. “Beautiful”

Just about manage to drag myself out of bed at 8.30 (there’s a pattern here) and am quickly dressed in order to get to MGM early……a quite futile attempt as Becky takes til 10 to get ready. I seethe and try to remain calm but gradually lose the will to live…..I could have had a swim! While I’m waiting I have breakfast and try to chill.

Catch the bus to MGM, and once again we only have to wait a matter of minutes for our bus at PC…good service. Quickly realise today is even hotter than usual and we’re going to suffer! Grab a fast pass for the fab rock n roller coaster, which I know becky won’t do as it goes upside down and after an ice lolly to cool us down we nip into the shop that sells all the “nightmare before Christmas” stuff that Bek loves so much. She can’t decide what to get and leaves it in the end….I still reckon she’s hoping I’ll buy it all in October!

Wander round to Star Tours and find there’s a 40 minute wait and I can’t get another FP yet so it’s over to the Sci Fi diner (a fave of ours) to book a table for lunch. Glad we did as it’s very busy, but we get a table for 1 o’clock like we wanted. Over to do the Backlot Tour, which is pretty disappointing this time. Apparently they’ve been having some techy problems and the first part where they show you how they pretend to blow up ships and things is very lame without any ‘volunteers’ and not much action. After a quick walk thru the props room (wish we could see all this properly) we’re onto a tram where this too is very different. The catastrophe canyon is about the same, and fun, but there are no streets to see now like you used to, as its all changed for the new stunt show.

After this we have a little break for a lovely frozen drink near ‘Honey I shrunk the kids’ playground, where they’re serving alcohol already to several Americans! Isn’t it a little early before mid-day and in this heat?!!! I think Disney seem to be serving much more alcohol now at their parks and hotels than they used to. There’s a separate lounge now at PC too where you can buy drinks.

Anyway, we’re off to see the Little Mermaid Show, as this I Becky’s all time favourite movie as she wanted to be a mermaid when she was little and knew all the words to the songs off by heart, all the actions and everything…..but don’t tell her I told you that eh? She loved it of course even tho she pretended to be acting cool! Spend lots of time while Becky looks at all the princess clothes in the little shop near the show, she’s sure the dresses would still fit her!

Then it’s off to lunch (after we’ve picked up a FP for Star Tours). I’ve missed Rock n Roller coaster now so will leave it till next time I guess, and unfortunately the stunt show is set for the same time as our lunch, the next show not being until quite late so again I’ll have to do that next time. I’m so lucky I’m coming back, it’s makes it much more relaxed. We both love the Sci Fi Diner and have been there many times so that we know many of the words from the old movies playing in there and shout along with the servers much to everyone’s amusement! We’ve been lucky to book a table as people are walking in and being told to come back 2 hours later so it paid to pop in early I reckon.

Lunch is a BBQ chicken s’wich for me, and a soup and fries for Becky, and is good and filling. It’s all about the atmosphere for us anyway. Nicely full we head out and over to Star Tours….good job we’re not too stuffed! I can’t tell you how often we’ve done this ride since 1996 when we first came, but although it’s very dated now we still love it. Outside Becky almost caves in and buys a Yoda t-shirt (“Size matters not”)….can’t believe her restraint!

I sit on a bench and soak up the sun while I wait for Becky to use the loo and that’s where we encounter some horrible, rude people. I won’t go on about it, but I notice a family just a few yards across the way from us (the Mum followed Becky out of the loo) stopping and pointing and quite clearly discussing my beautiful daughter. They point out her piercings….ok that’s to be expected, and Becky wouldn’t have them if she didn’t expect (or want) some attention…….BUT I do NOT expect people to point out and loudly discuss the cuts my daughter has on her arms and wrists….especially so loudly where she can hear and see what they’re doing!!! Becky gets upset and I’m all for giving them a piece of my mind (or a slap) except she begs me not to. Would they be this rude if someone had a disability???? Would they still stop and stare and loudly discuss them??? I think (hope) not!!! I’m sorry to say they were American, and I know this is not necessarily typical of all Americans, but we did find many small minded people out there. Thanks, my daughter has enough problems without you pointing them out!!!!

This put a real dampener on the day afterwards, and Becky went really quiet for a long while. By 3pm we were too hot (and bothered) and after a cursory look in the shops we headed for home. We did stop for a while in the film shop y the exit and Becky found some great Adams family signed posters I’d like to get her when we go back.

Back at the hotel Becky wants to rest and tells me to go and have a swim, I’m a bit concerned but she persuades me she’s fine now and won’t let it get to her too much. I have to trust her and I’m off for my swim for a while. Also call Mark to moan to him, before returning to shower and change. We watch TV and chat before popping over to the food court for shrimp lo-mein (me) and a peanut butter/jelly kids lunch box for Becky. It also contains a bag of baby carrots so she gets some hummus to dip…tasty!

It’s off to the other side of DTD tonight (marketplace) and it’s absolutely heaving with people….not nice at all! We have a good mooch round all the shops, buying some presents for the 3 cats (Aristocats bowls & place mats), Becky’s half sister & step brother, some Disney beakers for ourselves, and a t shirt or two. Then we pop into the sportswear/swim wear shop and Becky spies some Quicksilver camo shorts which she falls in love with. I’ve been promising her something nice for a couple of days (because obviously I haven’t bought her enough yet!!!!!) and she tries them on and loves them. Yes, they’re boys’ shorts but that doesn’t really matter and they’re a snip at $50!!!!! Yikes!! It was that or the Alice in Wonderland dress, and I’m sure she’ll get more wear out of these aren’t you?

I have to recover in Ghirardelli’s after that….with a yummy banana split…poor Becky has to make do with an iced coffee….although she does pinch most of the banana and other fruit from me. LOL The perks of being a Vegan I tell her….

By 10.15 we’ve had enough, Becky is wilting and so am I, so we head for home. The bus driver is the same mad one from the other evening, this time with a different routine…mad as a snake! Becky pops over to fetch our mugs while I use up all my change to buy her a magazine in the PC shop. Bet they loved me! Takes me ages to sport out all those coins (I don’t really ‘do’ coins you see).

Back in the room we watch TV, laugh at Becky’s American teen magazine and then sleep…ready for our last full day tomorrow

I dream of punching rude people……and I hope Becky dreams of mermaids…….

Night all….

 :sad2: princess:

I think that they were very luck I was not there, I would have let Mandy take Becky away from the scene before I told them exactly what I thought.

I love my wondeful wife and step daughter with all my heart and would not stand for it, some people are so rude and insensative it makes my blood boil.

I am glad that they both managed to relax and have fun depite this, relaxing and fun was the whole reason for the trip.

Thanks for another great post. I sure am loving reading about your trip with your daughter. Sorry that you had to encounter such rude folks at MGM. Tell Becky that my wife and myself also love Nightmare before Christmas, we have loads of stuff from it in our house. Well off to the next chapter.

:grouphug: its a shame people are not more tolerant...none of us are " perfect "

Thanx for another great day.

It makes my blood boil when people make comments regarding others. As far as I am concerned it is what's on the inside that counts. It is obvious from their comments that the family are sadly lacking there. Not sure I would have been as restrained as you thou Mandy.

Loved your report. Sorry to admit that as far as my troop are concerned I'd have given them the "glesga kiss" for any comments. Becky lucky that you care for her so much :)

There are some horrible people about, it just breaks your heart when you see your child upset, felt for you both.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to deal with rude people in a calm, polite way, whilst at the same time completely putting them in their place? My Mum always used to be brilliant at that kind of thing, but I let myself get agitated and go about it all the wrong way.

I have a tip for you! Fastpasses can't be used before their start time, but they can be used any time after they 'expire' for the rest of that day. We've done it loads of times since we found out.

Beleive me, if Becky hadn't asked me not to say anything I'd ahve been straight over there.....( love the idea of the glasgi kiss!!!!) and I would ahve pointed out their ignorance in a very calm (gritted teeth) manner........

Thats a great fastpass tip UKDeb! Thanks.

great reports, on to the next one :cool1:

You've echoed my sentiments, exactly - why talk about people like that :confused3 Their lives must be so mundane and boringly routine they have to.

I've so enjoyed reading your trippies from your week, Mandy and Bex, hope the last couple of days are better than this one for you both :love2:

I'm sorry your day was spoiled by such small-minded people, that would have made me so cross. I do hope Becky wasn't too upset :( As someone else pointed out, they are obviously lacking or feeling very insecure about themselves to have to point out other people. Apart from that, it sounds like a great day. And Deb, what a great tip - I had no idea about that!

The teen years are difficult enough w/o some so-called adult making it worse.
