Lucky Charms Tour 2005
Starring .
Angel (aka Mandy) . Mum extraordinaire, teenager at heart, loves to shop
Becky (17) daughter, rock star, budding artist, also loves shopping
Background: trip was booked last minute (just the week before we left) by my lovely DH as a special treat for us girls to help us relax after a tough year, while he works, poor thing. Were travelling with MyTravel to Pop Century for a week in the sun .
5. Rock the House
Its a late start today, were going to take it easy as we have a date tonight with the Hard Rock Live and an MTV taping! One of Beckys fave bands, Coheed and Cambria, are playing and it only cost $12 for a ticket, so were off there tonight and really looking forward to it .wow Im such a cool Mum!
Have my daily chat to Mark, then eventually have breakfast in the food court once Becky gets up. Please note she is now settling into Florida time and is no longer up and at em so early! Bagel for Becky, waffle for me, and we share a fruit bowl, then its the bus to Blizzard Beach. I should be using my nice new Tink bag from yesterday, but I noticed the zip was broken and tried to change it at our hotel shop only to find they didnt do them and the only way they could change it was for me to traipse all the way back over to AK no thanks! Swapped it for a different bag with Snow White on, not the same but still nice.
We get to BB by 11, to find its packed, which I expected. I really planned to get there for 9.30 so we could make the most of the sun in the morning but there you go, thats teenagers for you! See, trying not to stress! Anyway, this is a novelty Becky even coming to BB with me ..Becky in a swimming costume! The shock of it! We manage to find 2 chairs near the water edge which is good and settle down under a big black cloud (in the sky that is). I have a splash and a swim, but its manic in the water. BB now allow tubes in the pool and you cant move for people and tubes everywhere. Becky has a paddle with me ..in her tankini no less!!! This is great!
Just as Becky agrees to do the family raft ride however the rain starts. We go off to check out the shop which is fab and Becky almost has me buying a 2nd bikini .ok so its $65 (what?!!!!!) but Im amazed shes even thinking of it. In the end she decided its not worth it so we make our way back to the chairs where the sun is out now and I soak up the rays while Becky reads. I must just say here that Becky reads this fantastic book called The Perks of Being A Wallflower about a young lad growing up in high school and trying to fit in. Its, as Becky says, awesome, and I read it too and will be buying it for the school when I get back.. Urge your teens to read it, theyll love it, it really touched us.
Anyway, by 1 Beks had enough and I agree to return to the hotel as its now clouding over. I reckon I can swim back at PC anyway but sadly they close the pool there for the approaching storm and Im pretty hacked off. Were not allowed to sit by the storm either, which I can understand, but theyre cleaning our room, the storm doesnt appear for another 90 minutes and the food court is freezing! Try to be patient and eventually were allowed back in the room to eat our lunch (hummus & veg for Bek, flatbread with ham/cheese for me). I get pretty fed up I must admit, and by the time I talk to Mark again Im a little tearful
I do manage to chill out though, and we shower and spend ages deciding what to wear for the evening. Theres a really mad storm while we get ready but luckily its over by the time we want to leave. The nice people at PC call a cab for us and were off to the Hard Rock Live. Bad traffic on the way so its a good job we leave in plenty of time!
The cab fare is very high, which I did expect, but even so, this is not going to be a cheap night out! I think it costs $35 with tip. Its still very hot and we head into the ac of the shops (well thats our excuse!) before going to pick up our tickets from the box office. Then into the café for dinner, using my All Access pass of course! This gets us in immediately and gets us a discount too. I have a proper burger and Bek had the veggie swich. I follow it with a hot fudge sundae as I feel I havent done enough desserts yet
have to leave most of it tho
Spend ages in the shop of course, chatting to a very funny guy who works there and is taking the p out of Becky (in a nice way), acting scared of her. She ends up finding a Fender t shirt so thats cool and shes happy.
Were let into the HRL pretty early so Im able to secure my Granny position by the wall near the back, giving me a great view and something to lean on ..essential to all Mums at gigs! Becky of course gets as far away from me as is possible in that little place. Shes near the front over the other side and is soon swallowed up by the crowd that appears from nowhere.
The band do an acoustic set for MTV and were all filmed etc then they do a fab electric set which I really enjoy. I must say they are very like sort of Robert Plant/Jimmy Page sound at times quite old fashioned in a way. He sure plays a mean guitar! I enjoy the music far more than I enjoy the wafting of strange substances around me, Im sure Im high by the time it finishes! Ive found this before in the states at gigs, if the kids dont drink they make up for it in other ways!!!
Becky is euphoric. Were out by 10.45 and over to Quiet Flight where I manage to buy some new brown suede Roxy flipflops, lovely! Ive been starting to get withdrawal symptoms from the lack of real shopping!!! We could have bought loads here but were off to Florida Mall tomorrow so save our money for then.
Down to the cab stand where we wake up a very grumpy cab driver to take us back to Pop Century. Pick up drinks, chips & dips on the way back to the room, and watch an old episode of Knots Landing on TV. At 1.30 am its still very warm outside and there are kids in the pool it seems all night. (though Im too tired to care)
A good day, great evening, and worth the cab fare!
Night all
