Background: trip was booked last minute (just the week before we left) by my lovely DH as a special treat for us girls to help us relax after a tough year, while he works, poor thing. Were travelling with MyTravel to Pop Century for a week in the sun .
9. Say Hello, Wave Goodbye
Our last day this has been so cool.
Im exhausted by all this fun stuff so still dont get up til 8.30 and am in that pool by 9. This is the life. Ive given Becky orders to finish her packing while Im gone but dont hold my breath! Spend loads of time catching the last rays of sun and swimming. Chat to Mark, cant wait to see him, so it doesnt feel so bad going home after all. Grab a Danish and fruit/muesli yoghurt while I sunbathe and finish making my notes for my trippies (see how I think of you all!)
Drag myself away from the pool at 10.45 as the car is picking us up at 12.15 and we still have to finish packing. By the time Ive showered and changed (and straightened my hair .weve used them every day, girls) time is slipping away and of course Becky hasnt anywhere near finished packing. This is hilarious as we try and fit everything in. I end up throwing anything away that we possibly can (including by mistake Beckys carob chocolate shes not happy!), we have to leave our resort mugs behind too as they just wont fit in the cases anywhere (good job someone nabbed my towel Id have had to drape it round my shoulders!)
With Becky sitting on the cases, undoing the extra bits in them, and stuffing things into every possible crevice we can find in the bags we are ready. OMG this will surely mean excess baggage for us !!! They are sooo heavy to lug around and we also have our flight bags, a carrier bag of food for the plane, and a small ice bag for more snacks!!!!! Good job we only came for a week!!! Im certain we hardly did any shopping nothing up to our usual standards anyway!
Leave our room for the last time (we think) at 12 and struggle over to the entrance of the hotel watching out for Quicksilver. Becky suddenly has a look of horror as she remembers Mr Magnetron, our hilarious friend left in the room wed stuck him on the edge of our mirror so we could laugh every time we saw it!!! I gave her my room key and off she ran theres no way were leaving him behind! Luckily Quicksilver gets to us dead on time, just as Becky returns with Mr Magnetron phew!
Carlos greets us and settles us in the car while he marvels at our restrained shopping .did I say becky wears her pirate hat all the way home??? Sadly the massive stretch Hummer we spy pulling up wasnt for us then!
As we get in the car Becky gives me a massive hug which is worth all the words in the world ..sniff. Shes had a great time I know, and so have I.
We both doze on the way back to Sanford, Im tired from all that sun and swimming, and Beckys just always tired! The airport is manic when we arrive. Ive been worried were not there early enough as its only 3 hours before take off time and Im usually a real early bird at check in. Its fine though, although when I enquire about upgrades theyve all gone (well what do you think I was saving my money for?) The q is horrendous but moves quickly and were soon checked in and wonder of wonders we dont have to pay any xs! Yay! We are given 2 seats near the front (row 12) across the aisle from each other, which is fine for us. Then its thru security where guess who sets off the alarms .me!!! Apparently they reckon its the buckle on my sandals! Becky s******s a lot! .until I remind her of the suitcase incident, and then her PJ sarnies fall out of her bag on the conveyor belt and its my turn to s****** as the security guard holds them up and shouts out whose are these? lol
The departure lunge has a lot more to offer than I expected. There are a toy shop, with travel games and my little ponies, a newsagent, Disney type t shirt shop, food court place, bar, and duty free. I have to buy Becky a flying pony which smells of coconut to surprise her, shes only got a couple of hundred in the shed! Shes well pleased tho!
As with Gatwick, its difficult to find food for Becky here and she settles for some fries while I have a lovely hot dog and some onion rings, and we share some powerful red mountain dew mmmmmm. She also has some of the snacks weve brought with us to try and take up less space, but I go and buy a couple of books after a massive long q at the newsagent so have to fit those in my bag then too!
After all the queuing it doesnt seem to take long before they call our flight. I just have time to say a quick goodbye to Mark on the phone and we seem to jump the q as for some reason most people get in one q and we get in another .wierd! Our seats are good and Becky has a very nice lady and her daughter next to her. The daughter has special needs so Im happy to help load bags and things into the luggage compartments for them and help them settle in. Shes very funny (the mum) and we end up laughing throughout the trip especially when she loses her shoes on the plane! Im already in my pretty socks, which I must say look even better with a skirt!!!! Becky is so embarrassed!
We take off on time but its horrid as theres turbulence and it feels like as we lift off we suddenly drop into thin air, which happens twice before we settle .Im holding Beckys hand across the aisle and really think our time has come at one point! Nasty! Its fine after that tho and we all breathe a sigh of relief. Food is pretty awful this time so were glad we brought our own onboard. The aisle seat is much more comfortable for me, especially as the woman next to me sits most of the time with her back to me sticking her elbow into me .she even manages to turn my TV on and of with her arm! Grrrrrrr!
As charter flight I am very impressed, apart from the movies which were the same going back as on our way out! I watch Sahara this time which is pretty bad but something to watch. We try to sleep but cant so arrive back home to a yukky grey morning exactly 8 hours later at 5.15 am. Its cold, were tired and just want to get home now, but were held on the plane til our (female) captain goes out herself to complain that gets us moving! Were the furthest away we could possibly be and my feet are killing me by the time we get to immigration.
Our cases are also the last off, and its an hour till we get them back, by which time weve both lost the will to live and are getting grumpier and grumpier. We should make the 7.07 to reading though so we just about manage to lug all our luggage on to the escalator and down to the station platform where I phone mark to tell him were safely landed while Becky goes off to find a loo. Slight panic as shes not back 15 minutes later when the train pulls in, but luckily she arrives just in time and were on the train and on our way home.
Tired and grumpy we get back to Reading where I see the most welcome sight ever Mark is waiting on the platform to take our cases and give us hugs.
Our girlie holiday is over, we had the best time ever that a Mum & daughter could have, I reckon .now I can look forward to a fab holiday with my fabbiest husband in October.. Good bye Disney, see you in 2 months!
Thanks for listening .
