Has anyone been to any luaus in Maui or Oahu?

We were at one years ago at the Polynesian Cultural Center and didn't really care for it. We also didn't like the one at the Polynesian resort in Disney

We are going to Hawaii next summer and thought the kids may enjoy one there. I keep reading about the Old Lahaina Luau but wanted to get first hand responses from people.

Thanks

On Oahu we went to Paradise Cove which was a lot of fun and more than 'just' a luau. We were picked up from our hotel by a bus which had a tour guide on it and he was a hoot. They drove us out to the Cove which was about a 30 minute ride I think. When we arrived there were a lot of activities to participate in and we made leis and watched different types of performers, watched them bring in the fishing nets and watched the guys climb trees for coconuts, saw exotic birds and a bunch of other stuff.

Then there was dinner and the show which was a lot of fun and very fast paced. The fire twirler was awesome.

Anyhow, the whole thing was about 4 hours long but we were never bored and it's a great memory.

Here is their website.... Paradise Cove

I've heard wonderful things about the Old Lahina Luau--we'll be there on New Year's Eve, so I can report back.

We've been to the Luau at the Royal Hawaiian (the big pink hotel on Waikiki)--it was really fun, and the food was great.

What about the PCC Luau didn't you like? Having also been to that one, show wise, it was pretty good. The food was much better at the Royal Hawaiian, but also more expensive (open bar though)

That's because there are no Mai-Tais! The Polynesian Cultural Center is run by the Mormon church and everyone there is Mormon. I *love* the evening show, however. I need to find a way to get great tickets to the show without buying an expensive package with stuff I don't want ... like a luau without mai-tais!

At the PCC, I didn't like the food and the show was just so so.
For a while I thought it was us since we didn't like that one and the one at Disney World. Willing to give it one more try somewhere else in Maui or Oahu

I just heard back from a friend that went to the Old Lahaina Luau and they didn't care for it at all. They didn't like the food and the show was boring to them. We have the same taste in foods so I think we are not going to that one

I have not personally been to Old Lahaina Luau, but I've heard many good things about it, including positive feedback from chef friends who recommend it.
