I have ressies for the Luau on Dec 25, just me and my daughter (6). And my big question is... do we, or don't we attend?

We arrive early on the 25th... staying at PO FQ... I'm worried about the time it will take to get to the Poly, and back... it's not an inexpensive dinner... my daughter loves trying to do the hula... and it seems like an interesting alternative to our normal Christmas Dinners...

Any advice/suggestions?

Exactly what time are you arriving and which show are you planning to attend? I'm guessing you are going to the early seating. Are you afraid you will be too tired to attend or just concerned about arriving timely?

Arriving at Polynesian for the Luau in timely fashion shouldn't be a problem. You can taxi there from POFQ OR simply take the MK bus and transfer to the resort monorail. I'd allow an hour and if you arrive early, all the better--you can check out the Polynesian grounds.

Our kids always loved the luau when they were younger--we did the early show which was a character dinner at the time--not sure if they still do that since we've not been in years. The kids were not fond of the food during the first visit but did enjoy it the 2nd time they went. They would probably thoroughly enjoy it now that they are older. My husband and I thought the food was average at best--mass produced, usually not hot, but edible anyway. We always enjoyed the show.

If you've not been--it sounds like a great alternative to the traditional Christmas sit down! I'd do it.

I checked our itinerary - we arrive at MCO at 10 am... and we have the late seating (8pm)... fortunately my daughter is a night owl (or, since I am a morning person, is that unfortunately?)...

Any clue how expensive the taxi would be? I am the type that has to be places early - less stress for me.

Is beer included in the price? $75 for the two of us is not an inexpensive option.

We've taken the taxi from DD to Polynesian and it was $15 (includes a tip). From most properties on site, we've found the price to be around $10 (e.g., Boardwalk to Poly) and that included a tip.

Beer is included. Wine used to be an option and mai tais, too. I thought someone had said previously that mai tais were no longer offered--someone else should have the answer to that one!

You should have plenty of time from arrival to show time to settle in--unless, of course, you're socked in at an airport somewhere--fingers crossed that's not the case!

Have a good time if you decide to go--our kids always enjoyed it when they were that age. They probably would again--we all just prefer HDD to the luau.

We were at the Luau last week and just loved it. Our only complaint was that it was a little chilly (of course that was not their fault)!!! The food was very good and very plentifull. Beer and wine (white or red) is included in the price. There are several mixed drinks available from the cash bar. When the food was placed on the table the waitress asked us if the kids would also like some traditional food (chicken nuggets and mac 'n cheese was available). They can still eat any of the luau food they like and there is no extra charge. The show was wonderful and we really enjoyed the whole experience.

Have a great time!!

Just take the bus to MK from PO and then hop the monrail to the Poly. The problem is that it will be cold. It is an open air thing, there is cover over head and on the sides of the building, but that is about it. The first time it is entertaining especially if you are a female. I have found over the years that women enjoy this more than men. If you are female, you and your daughter should really enjoy it. If you are a guy, well the first time I found it entertaining but too long. After the first time I really did not enjoy it but went with guests. The men in the act make up the whole show really. They are funny, in great shape(that is why i think women enjoy it more than men) and really know how to dance, etc. Dress warm. Oh yes, the food is so so.

I think you could be there in time. Kids (even big ones like me) love the luau. Especially when they drag people up in front of everyone to dance with them-lots of fun!

We're beginning to look forward to it... I'm still a bit concerned about where we will be seated... but I think I can live with it. My daughter SO wants to get up on stage to dance... any tips on how to improve her chances?
