Personally, I think "class" is a state of mind and spirit!! I know plenty of wealthy people with who are rude, self-important and narrow-minded!! But, even more financially less fortunate people with integrity, refinement, humility and hearts of gold!!!
But seriously, I had heard somewhere that the majority of Americans actually live "below the poverty line". There is something seriously wrong, if that's the case!!

Amen to that!! Working in a casino, I deal with wealthy and not-so-wealthy people all the time. And I must say, some rich people are some of the most obnoxious, rude, unhappy and impatient people I've ever met. If being rich meant being like them, I'd rather stay where I am.
I guess it depends on two things: your total income and your cost of living. If the 80-100K income is the definition of middle class, then my family isn't even close. But, we live in East Tennessee where cost of living is quite low, comparatively. We define ourselves as solidly middle class.
