Lovely Wonder Trip 9/28-10/2, Part 3
Good morning, at home now relaxing...on with my story, though much shorter...(yeah, right)
Wonder, 9/28 to 10/2
Me, 39
DS, 12
DD, 7
NASSAU
To wake up on a ship go out on your private veranda see a tiny island coming into sight is pure indulgence! What's that huge building?? Oh, Atlantis. It's amazing how large it is. I then snuck out of the room to go to the private deck on the back of deck 7. We were in 7120 and just down the hall. It was lovely. I also wandered up on deck 9 for a few minutes before heading down to the room for breakfast.
The children were still sleeping very soundly after such a busy day and late evening. We had ordered breakfast through roomservice the night before and it came promptly at 7:30. I had put on the sheet b/t 7:30-8:00. They were right on time each morning. For some reason though I thought I had read somewhere that they call before delivering, but they didn't. That was just fine since the children were sleeping so soundly.
I had my coffee and muffin on the balcony while watching us pull into port. The children roused themselves and came to look out. You could definitely tell you were in the subtropics. It was very warm and humid, but oh so lovely. The water is an amazing color and very clear. We watched as the ship turned around to back into the port.
After breakfast the children hung out in the room just watching a few cartoons and easing into the day. I had been to Nassau before and wasn't terribly anxious to get off the ship. So I did a bit of reading and relaxing. Finally both children had wanted to go to their clubs because both were going to get a chance to visit the next higher club...the Lab and Common Grounds.
This is where I should mention that neither one was really interested in their own clubs. I believe it's because they were both at the very upper level being 7 and 12. My DD liked it better than my son, but only if one of her friends was there. My son did enjoy his time at Common Grounds that day because they had chess sets and he played a couple of games, but because he was three months from being 13 he could not go there otherwise. The problem he had is that he is very tall, 5' 9" and 12. He's very mature too and enjoys older things like chess. But next time we go both children should enjoy their clubs because they will move up. We're heading back out to sea for a week on the Eastern route in March.
OK, what was I doing with all that lovely free time?? I can't remember.
I do remember wandering around and checking out the ship. I believe that was when I went to the adult pool section and got into the hottub. Heaven, especially with a drink of the day! It was around lunch and way too early to drink, but I only had one and it was rather weak at that, so I guess it was OK. I was on vacation and don't drink by myself at any other time.
So after a pleasant conversation with a couple along comes my son. He tells me he's finished in Common Grounds and is heading to the arcade...another side note, OK two...
Becareful in the arcade if your child has charging privileges. My son did and his first card (must purchase a min. of $10...yikes) got caught in a machine and he couldn't get it out. So, what does he do? He goes over to the machine that issues arcade cards and gets another one. He has no concept that he just lost $10 and now has spent $20!!! Well, after I'm out of the hot tub and we meet up he innocently tells me of the problem. I must say I was a bit frustrated with him and when I explained that he had just spent $20 and lost $10 he was very upset. So we head down to Guest Services to see if we can turn in the Arcade Card and have the $10 charge removed. They cannot do that but they did put the entire $20 (minus the $4 he had already spent) on one card. Good but $20 worth of arcade tokens!!!! WAY TOO much, but that brings me to point number two...
I had told the children that I would give each of them $20 a piece to spend as they like on this trip, but I would not be buying anything beyond room/board and gas (plus my own souveniers). This was a really great idea because over the past six months they worked to earn extra money and DD had $42 while DS had $78 (both including my $20 donation). It saved me a lot of headaches and having to say "no" all the time. They were very aware of the cost of items and the value as well. It was a great budgeting lesson for them. Well, when DS realized he spent an extra $10 of his own money on arcade he was devestated. It was very hard not to pay for it myself, but I think it was a good lesson to learn.
To cheer him up I offered to play some games with him in the arcade. He and I had fun spending his money on silly games and it's something we wouldn't have normally done together, so maybe it was a good mistake after all.
I'm going to stop here for now but I'll continue later, either tonight or tomorrow. I'm getting ready to take the kids and their friends to see Finding Nemo at the $1 theater here in town...funny story behind that...It was showing on the ship, I believe Nassau night, but because we had just finished a long day, a heavy meal, and for me-one glass of wine with dinner...I fell asleep in the theater!!
So now I have to pay to see it!! So until later...have a lovely day!!!!
