Is Aug. as crowded, hot and rainy as it sounds?
Am I going to regret changing my plans to Aug.?

My family has been to DW three times in August. The beginning part of August is crowded - the last two weeks, less so. It's VERY hot and humid - it justs saps your strength after awhile. We found we coped much better by sleeping in late, and not even hitting the parks until 4:00pm. It's a bit cooler then, and the parks stay open later. That plan may not work for you since your children are so young. It does seem to rain and thunderstorm every day, sometimes it lasts 20 minutes, sometime a couple of hours...

I've been twice in January, and recently this past May, and even in May, it was toasty...I'm sticking to January from now on...

If you're not doing the "commando raid" on the parks, take things leisurely, and take lots of naps to prevent meltdowns, then you'll do fine. Stick to lots of airconditioned exhibits and shows!! AND don't set yourself up to unrealistic goals of seeing the entire parks for 8 hours each day. You'll have a good time.

Twice in late August and it was hot.We had a great time and crowds weren't to bad.We would arrive early and then go back to resort in heat of the day and return late afternoon or early evening. :goodvibes :wizard:  :goodvibes

Hi! We are January/February people, too!! Love that time of the year in WDW. Well, that is coming to an end for us and I have my oldest starting high school in the fall. No more pulling him out of school for a week.

We tried August 2004 (first summer trip ever to WDW) and it was HOT, HUMID and I remember the MK was very CROWDED. We went from 8/19- 8/29. I thought the whole place was crowded compared to what I was used to and what people were reporting on the DIS. It is all relative, I am sure. Compared to Jan/Feb it seems much more crowded.

That said, I am going back this August with my kids. My husband won't even return in August ever again. He just couldn't take it and he really did not enjoy it. He said at one point in AK he thought he was going to pass out. (AK gets VERY hot - hotter than any other park because of all the foliage, I think and the attractions are so spread out, you do a lot of walking to get from one to another) We had our spray misters - those are great!! We had hats, and shoes for wet weather, Disney ponchos (which they will replace if they tear). We were prepared, but it still would get uncomfortable and exhausting.

When we return this August, we (kids and I) are just going to take our time and not try and do everything. We will not even attempt AK. We plan to swim and hang out at the resort, take the monorail around and shop, go early and break or sleep in and go late. I have lots of PSs for cool off breaks. We had APs that expire the day we return home. We really don't need to do everything as we have made 4 trips to WDW on these passes. (great deal, actually!!) :earboy2:

I am hoping that last years hurricanes keep people away from planning August trips this year and keep the crowds away! Just be prepared for heat and humidity like you have never known. Have PSs daily, and plan to spend some time at the resort relaxing.

I don't mean to scare you away - any time at WDW is great! It is just MUCH different than Jan/Feb.

Yes, you are crazy to go in August, especially if you really like January and February. It will be hot and humid; and depending on which part of August, crowded, too. The closer you get to Labor Day, the less people will be there.

You need to plan to take breaks during the day. We went once in June, vowed never again to go in the summer. Although, it wasn't as bad as Nashville in August--95 degrees, and 92% humidity, that was the worst.
