Loved Allegiant flight from Rockford to Sanford--Sanford is a breeze!!!

An hour should be sufficient. Once you park your car it cannot take you more than 5 minutes to get inside. If you are flying Allegiant (which there is not much else there) there will be about 180-200 seats on the plane and our plane was full going to Sanford. So just keep in mind all of those people will have to go through the ticket line, and then security.

I think we got there about an 1 1/2 hours before our flight and had time to eat the picnic lunch we brought before we went through security.

There was an open lounge area where you could watch planes land and take off with tables and that is where we ate our lunch.

Another Rockfordian checking in!

We've flown Rkfd - Sanford in the past on Transmeridian. We agree that nothing can beat the convenience of our local airport, and the drive from Sanford to WDW isn't bad at all. We like flying into MCO and using ME and not even worrying about a car, but I guess there's a trade-off either way. The trick for me has been if the local airlines can accommodate our travel schedule, and if the fares are competitive enough with Southwest. We've driven down to Midway on several occasions because the flights were on the right days and about half the cost.

We're still waiting to figure out our flights for December. Southwest is only booking through October, and Allegiant's schedule ends on Dec 9 - we're leaving on the 16th. I'm also waiting to see where our newest airline - Festival - is going to announce that they are flying to. Hopefully I can get this all resolved during July or August.

And a quick "SHOUT OUT" to the other Rockfordians on here. :wave2:

Thanks IowaGirl, :goodvibes I thought that it would be OK if we were there an hour before but maby we will get there a few min. earlyer due to those 180-200 people going thought the ticket line too. Thanks again! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the helpful information. We are flying Lansing to Sanford on Allegiant in two weeks. We're also renting from Alamo -- $155 for 10 days. I appreciate hearing where Alamo is located since we're getting in rather late. I already called the Alamo Sanford office and they said they'll stay for our flight -- we get in at 9:50 and they're to close at 10:00. Are directions to Alamo pretty clearly marked? I'm going to be with only my DD11.

Also, how early did you get to Sanford for your return flight? What is sufficient for an airport of that size?

Thanks again!

Cheyita, Me too, I hope Festival is going to some FUN places! :Pinkbounc

Sandi,
If you have two people in your party, you might have one wait for your luggage, and the other head over to the Alamo building.

When you exit your flight, baggage claim is just one or two minutes away. The rental car counters are on the opposite side of the baggage claim area from where you entered after departing your flight. It is maybe 100 steps from the baggage claim.

But that is the hertz rental car area, plus like three other companies. You exit the rental car area, cross a lane of traffic, and keep walking. It is about the length of a small strip mall and the Alamo building is at the end. Two to three minutes without luggage.

It is well signed. Hard to miss.

We left the Marriott World Center with a little less than two hours to get to Sanford. Problem was actually retrieving our car from the parking garage there. Hotel parking was not convenient. I-4 was not bad, we took it the whole trip. We needed to stop and fill up though, and return the car. I was worried with about 70 minutes before our flight left. Dropping our car off took 5 minutes at the most. Guy just told us to leave the keys in the door. I went inside anyway, they printed up a receipt, and were back on that same path towards baggage claim to check in for our flight.

Alamo sounds like it has some great deals! i will definately have to check it out for our 2007 trip :)

We too have driven to Midway and parked our car :) for us it's all about how much we $ave!

Thanks for the information. I'm more comfortable knowing where to head now. Good to hear about this airport. We'll be driving from Tampa to get back to the airport -- visiting relatives after our WDW vacation. I'll leave plenty of time and probably end up sitting at the airport for awhile.

I've always hesitated to use this airline since I thought they're considered a charter airline and you have no recourse if they cancel your flight-they could just refund your $$ and you'd be stuck finding transport at last minute prices. Is this just another of my unfounded worries? I've heard of it happening to a friend of my SIL with tickets on a charter airline (not sure which one) she had to take her to a wedding, and the replacement tickets on another airline were astoundingly high priced, but she had no choice.

Where else does Allegiant fly out of, or is it just from the Midwest??

Does anybody know what the best route from Samford to DISney(Fort Wilderness) would be. It will be a Friday evening(around 5) when we leave the airport. Not to concerned as to whether it is toll or not. Thanks

Try posting this as a new thread so more people will see it. :goodvibes

The best route from Sanford to Disney Friday evening at 1700 is the only route to take. Leave the airport. At the 7/11 junction. Ronald Reagan Road, make a left. Go under the double overpass staying in the left hand lane and than turn up the exit to 417. It is a total $5.00 toll to Disney, but will save you an hour or two if you go Interstate 4 at that time.

...oh well.....I didn't get such great rates :confused3 ........

Don't feel bad I didn't either. :sad2: That's why I'm flying SW.

I am glad to see this, they fly out of Cedar Rapids too and the $99.00 price is so tempting, only we can't book for January yet :(

How far in advance could you purchase your tickets and did you have the ME?

Thanks,

Lori

Thanks for the Info! We are also flying Allegiant into Sanford, only from Allentown Pa. Also have a car thru Alamo! :thumbsup2

Lori: Allegiant flies into Sanford, not MCO, so the ME is not an option. I'm not sure when they open up January.
