I know Air Tran gets alot of bad reviews on this board, but I gotta say I love them.
Several months ago I planned a solo trip to WDW for this April 30th-May 8th. My husband then decided to go. The problem was I was leaving on a weekend he had to work and his boss was being a horse's butt and refused to let him switch weekends with a coworker (even though the coworker volunteered to switch with him). We round up booking him to fly out to join me two days later on Monday May 2nd and we would then fly back on the same flight on Sunday (May 8th). After his flight was booked, his boss then changed his mind and decided to let him go. Knowing that Air Tran is notorious for changing flight times and have a very lenient policy where if they do change your flight you can switch your flight to another flight or even a different day for free, I've been watching and hoping for my husband's flight to change. The return flight has changed by four minutes, but the outgoing flight (the one I needed to change hasn't budged). Why is it that when you want them make a flight change they don't.
Anyway, today I gave up waiting and called to see how much it would cost to move him from his Monday flight to my Saturday flight fully expecting to have to pay out the nose. I had gotten his r/t flight for $149.40 which is the cheapest I've ever paid for a DFW-MCO-DFW flight. That flight is now $395.40, so I was expecting to be told that I'd have to pay the $246.00 difference plus the $75.00 change fee, so the ticket would round up costing $470.40.
I got a very nice CR, politely told him what happened and asked how much it would cost to move him from the Monday flight to the Saturday flight. I was very polite and even laughed with the CR telling him that if it was too much my husband would just have to fly out on Monday. He said,"no, it's your guys vacation. Let me see what I can do". He came back and told me that the flight I was wanting to move him from hadn't changed times any since I'd booked it, but the returning flight had changed by four minutes, but that didn't help me (which of course I knew
). I told him I understood and asked him again how much it would cost me to change his flight and he said to let him check something else out and placed me on hold. He came back and told me he had moved my husband from his Monday flight to my Saturday flight and had even placed him in the window seat next to my aisle seat and that he'd done it 'as a courtesy' so it wouldn't cost me anything.
My husband is now getting to go to WDW two days earlier and instead of paying $321.00 in addition to the $149.40 that we've already paid (the $75.00 change fee plus the $246.00 difference that we paid for his ticket and the current price of the ticket) it didn't cost us anything to change his flight. I was expecting the total price for his ticket to be $470.40 now, instead of the $149.40 we originally paid for it. Gotta love Air Tran's customer service.
His outgoing flight time never changed, but they still moved him to my flight for free, even though they knew I was willing to pay to move him.
