Love Bugs...everywhere!

Just wanted to let everyone know who is arriving at WDW soon about the Love Bugs. They were everywhere. They look like lightning bugs that are constantly mating. They fly all over you, especially at Blizzard Beach. They don't bite, but are very annoying.

Yes, it is lovebug season in Florida once again. Being a transplanted New Yorker, I found this particular feature of Florida to be quite annoying and gross myself. But rileyroosmom is right; they do not bite. They do land on you, and all around you, and get all over your car. They are worse in woodsy areas, but they are found everywhere at this time of year. Lasts about 2 weeks I think.

Just got back from Love Bug Mania 2004. You're right, they are annoying. My poor car must have taken out a few thousand just riding to and from the parks. Poor suckers!

Just a reminder to everyone - Love Bugs have an "acid" in them that eats paint. If you get them on the front of your car, be sure to clean them off as soon as possible!

My husband is a car-painter, and this is one of things he fixes for people a lot. They leave the bugs sit on their cars for a couple of days, then when they clean them off, the paint comes off with them, and needs to be touched up.

Other bugs don't do this - only love bugs.

There is a season for everything down here, LOL!

Rain and hurricanes, love bugs and mosquitos, humidity and tourists..............but that's ok, we get WDW too!

As long as they don't bite me - I won't have to kill them

Gosh, the love bugs were out when we were there last August...does this mean they stick around all summer? We are going in early August this year and I really don't want the love bugs to share our vacation again!

I arrived at disney Wednesday, May 12 and noticed some love bugs. I was wondering if they were just beginning or ending, because there weren't too many. But by Saturday, May 15, I had the answer to my question. There were many, many more around!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the lovebugs LOVE the clear plastic tubes used at SAB. We couldn't understand why they were hanging around us, as soon as we got rid of the tube, they left us alone.

What do you suggest we bring with us to wash them off our van. I don't want any left on my van. It is NEW........don't want the paint coming off this early!!

I want to go NOW!!! I can't wait...........we are counting the minutes!!!

great...great.. That's another thing I am looking forward to is those darn love bugs besides the gators and those lizards and snakes. So do Floridians actually wash their car everyday? So is that mean I have to wash them everyday too? We are moving down there this July.

We will be there in 2 weeks. Will they be gone by then? We are driving and DH just got a new car a few months ago. No way to we want the paint ruined on it.

Got this tip several years ago on a trip to Fla when the love bugs had us covered up. Spray the front of your car with PAM. The bugs slide right off!!

They are also attracted to white...so if you are wearing white they will follow you all day.

Fantasia - No, we don't wash our whole car every day. Just wipe the bugs off the front of the car after a long drive, to make sure the love bugs aren't stuck on there. They don't stick all around the car - just the grill & hood.

So glad to hear they like WHITE..........that is the color of my NEW VAN!!!!

I really don't care if they are there. I will be on vacation!! I am ready to be ON VACATION!

Someone mentioned that they come back in the fall - about what time of the year is that? I know we ran into them one trip, but I can't remember if it was one of our Sept. trips or our May trip.
