I am seeing a lot of offers that are being "reduced" in price on the Rent/Trade Board. Do you think this means that the rental business is drying up a bit?

Maybe...after all a lot of former renters are now owners.

I take it back...these are fire sale reductions...only someone who can drive or get an affordable flight on short notice can use it.

one of them is a II exchange - which if II finds out he is doing this he will lose his membership.

the other one is a renter already and can't go

I am not seeing any valid DVC members using their own points with a fire sale - if there are point them out to me.

I give up. Just checked the abbreviations and can't find II. What does that mean?

Interval International - it's the trading company that DVC uses for outside trades....

Without looking at any of the posts on the Rent/Trade board, my theory is that availability is the real problem. It's very limited for the rest of this year at all of the WDW resorts. (don't know about VB or HH). Perhaps the offered points will expire in the near future and the member is trying to get at least something for them. Of course, reducing the price will not help if there is no availability, but maybe "a deal" will attract people who can be very, very flexible with their vacation dates.

Just a possibility to consider...........

The new "kids free" with Visa is pretty tempting. This may cut into some of the rental business. Also, as more people rent out their points, if there isn't an increase in "takers", the prices may drop. Renting out points is not something anyone should count on financially.

Why is it that the reduced rates are always when I can't go???
I would love to grab that 2 bedroom for November 16th to the 23rd. what a bargain. But my boss would have my head and I would be looking in WDW for a job. Peggie

I am the unpopular regular renter of points. ;) (I bought in more than I cna use now but what I expect to use as I get older and my family grows, so I will rent the extras for the next few years). I have done several rentals off the rent/trade board and now that the people know it was an easy successful transaction, they e-mail me directly when going back. I think this must be happening with others as well, so although the rentals are still happening, some of them are not general posters anymore.

I think I also noticed that the reduced ones belonged to several specific people who book weeks up front and try to rent them. I have found unless a rentee cancels a reservation which I am holding already, it is always easier to start fresh with someone who needs points than to try and find someone who wants the week you are holding (barring holidays).

I agree with InstImpres that it's easier to rent points than exact dates. I had a Christmas week that I tried to rent--no takers--but all the points were rented within 24 hours for other dates. Also, I have heard that at least one person on the Rent/Trade board buys points cheaply from others, then rents popular dates, and charges top price for it, only reducing the price if there are no takers. Maybe that's the problem this time:confused:
